I don't personally have a 4850, i have the larger, hotter running 4870, but as a member of a large tech/overclocking community, i know the general gist of how things work.

You should look at the Powercolor HD4850 for good value.

I have that exact card, and I've been very happy with it. I haven't really been able to stress it much except with FSX, which it plays well (given that FSX is CPU bound, even on my PC). I've managed to get a fairly hefty overclock out of it and haven't had any real problems with noise. :)

Okay so i changed some stuff around and here it is. I dropped down to 2 gigs of ram and boosted the GPU to a 4870. Instead of listing everything out right here since im so impatient i just made it a wish list which I will link here.

You can go cheaper on the CPU cooler and get an AC7 Pro. Um Vista needs 4GB to work sufficiently am i right? You need to ask Alex or other Vista users as i am still on XP.

Yea, you need 4GB for Vista, especially the X64 version. Just go with the 4850 and 4GB of RAM.

The Blue Orb is a waste of time IIRC. Go for an AC7 or Xigmatek and then see if you can bump back up to 4GB which is advisable of Vista.

AC7s are really hit and miss, had some that work fantastic and some which have been barely different from stock coolers. Im not sure why this happens but iv decided to avoid them now and spend a little more on better alternatives to be sure.

Probably the cut of the copper base.

Just lap it with some wet and dry sandpaper to get it flat.

Also for the ram what is better (2 x 2GB) or (4 x 1GB) sticks?

2x2gb because it allows future upgrade. Make sure you have Vista X64 (not 32bit) otherwise it won't use the entire 4gb of RAM.

Thanks allot. I think thats everything i need ... hoping if I throw the order in tonight it will be here Wednesday and I can build it. Once again thanks to everybody who helped me tweak my rig to make it better. I think I am going to be more happy with the 4870 then the 9800 GT.

Although I am probably going to have a friend over who has built before to help me build it, does anybody have any links to a good source so I can look over it ahead of time? I tried doing a few searches but they all seem to be a little outdated, not that much has changed on the assembly side too much. The only thing I think I'm really worried about is hooking the PSU up to everything wrong and having 1k blow up in my face xD

As long as you have a quality PSU, it should be fine.
