Macs are rather stable... but they are far from as user friendly if you want to build your own computer and similar stuff.

Example: I just got two old PC's, one that was working good and one where the PSU was broken. I stole the RAM, HD and fan from the one with the broken PSU and put it all together with the functional computer, installed XP and got it all running perfectly (could even play TF2 with OK settings). The only trouble is that the motherboard lacks a functional sound card, which is odd, but I hope I'll find a new one soon, or I'll buy some cheap-*** card just to make it work :)

My point is that you could never ever do that if you had two old Macs. The OS probably wouldn't install properly in the first place and overall you can't customize OSX to function as well on several systems.

If you're new to computers and only are going to do office work, surfing the web etc. a Mac can be good, but say the gfx card breaks: with a PC you just buy a new one and get someone with some general computer knowledge to put it in and install drivers. With a Mac you either buy a whole new computer or send it to one of Apples partners for repairs, which is very costly.

Not to mention that you can get a good PC for half the money you can get a similar specs Mac for.

I have to give props to Macs for being generally very stable though... I have an old MacBook from 1995 and it still works flawlessly even though the battery run out in 10 minutes

I am a bit annoyed with Apple for another reason at the moment; if you go to the BBC tech news page, they've quite blatantly done a deal with the BBC (which for non-brits is advert free by law) to get a whole load of advertising time for the new iPod range on their site.
