Im not a fan of creative products, their driver support is appalling. I opted for the Auzentech after owning an XFI & an EMU (proffessional audio card) and im NEVER going back to creative. The build quality and versitility is far superior and its very noticable. I am a bit of an audiophile though so im extremely picky with these kind of things. Only gripe i have is the software interface is a bit pants.

The 9800GX2 performs worse than the 4870.

Should have stuck with the better ATI/AMD card.

^ For sure stay with that, imho the 9 series meh wouldent be spending money on them. They are not next gen cards. The 4870 is far more superior than the 9series.

The GX2 may have better FPS but its basically 2 8800GTs stuck together and not very efficiant at delivering the power from both chips so therefore a bit of a waste of electricity. The 4870 doesnt perform aswell overall as the GX2 but its a much newer piece of electronics and wont take an entire powerplant to keep running

9800 GX2 is great if you put water cooling on it and "overclock" two G92 chips to 675MHz and beyond. Estimated expenditure, though, is expected to be around $380 at least for off-the-shelf parts, unless you make your own water block. The cost for DIY approach varies depending on how much free tool and free material you can acquire.

For the money, it doesn't make much sense to do so. Get one 4870 will get you covered until 2010 when DX11 comes out. I still don't see many games will use PhysX. Even that eventually happens, a cheap 8600GTS will be enough. The price will be so low that you won't care when it stops working.

Iv only really seen the regualr 4870 beat the GX2 in one or two games, which benchmarks are you looking at?


if we are talking price per performance that yeah but im pretty sure the GX2 is overall a faster performer.

anandtech is the one im looking at.

Tom's just published an extensive graphics card round up. Though the drivers they use for the test are kind of old and no 4870X2, the article is still worth digging. At high resolution and high AA, 9800 GX2 can be constantly out-classed by 4870/4850. It really depends on which resolution you game.

Thanks, i stopped checking toms hardware charts a while ago as it seems they take so long to update them.

I would prefer a single GPU over a botch job dual one like the GX2 even if it isnt *consistantly* better tbh.
