    AMD deneb 45nm 4GHz!?

Previously, a Chinese who somehow acquired an early engineering sample of 45nm Deneb reported 3.5GHz on air with an MSI with 790FX/SB600. He also demonstrated that early ES already perform 10% better than current Phenom clock for clock. Now this? 4.0GHz on stock HSF!? If 45nm Deneb is that good, then AMD may as well do another "RV770" to Intel, provided if they price it right just like 4850/4870.

If they did it right and release 2.8GHz version at $235, then there is a hope to build a gaming rig for under $600 in November, and yet have twice the performance the money can buy 6 month earlier. PC gaming is dying? I don't think so anymore.

    Phenom @ 4.0ghz (air) Vs Q9450 @ 4.0ghz (air)

Battle of the titans. This will get messy. May the fanboy slander commence.

In all seriousness, i hope the Phenom owns Intel. Would be nice to see AMD competitive in the market again. I sometimes worry about their safety and existence. The SB750 NB should help as well.

AMD will never die. It will just go through constant buyouts.

The current state of AMD is the result of its former CEO Hector Ruiz. He decided to made the purchase of ATi that made AMD into red, then rushed Phenom into release which really sucks. Increased performance lead from Intel and nvidia also put AMD at disadvantage for two whole years. AMD also paid too much for ATi by at least 500 million.

However, we must remember that Mr. Ruiz led AMD into huge lead in performance and penetrated into Intel's dominating ground: server market. The purchase of ATi looked like a silly blunder when it was done. It will prove that this is the right decision. AMD doesn't have the kind of resources to compete with Intel to develop their own graphics core. Ruiz is really some guy with large balls. He knows that AMD will be back to green Q3 2008, but he stepped down and let Dirk to take the praise. Surprisingly, Phenom sells pretty good at mainstream market, partly due to suck-arse Intel platform in multimedia performance. How can you beat AMD Phenom 8450+780G chipset as blu-ray playing, internet surfing, mp3 encoding and Sim2 running machine at that price with Intel E7200? Not without GeForce 9300, but it will not come to retailers until September, optimistically speculating. Then there will be 8450e.

Now we see AMD is well posed for the future, while Intel's Larrabee still looks like a gamble. 16x Pentium MMX core? It indeed looks like laughabee not just to Jen-Hsun Huang. We'll see if it can run at 2GHz and deliver 1 TFLOP next year. Though I kind of hope that someday I can run a "just wrong" rig with AMD CPU, nvidia chipset and Intel graphics card.

Nvidia, on the other hand, it really in the worst position. However Apple might ditch Intel in pursuit of Cell or another Power based computer, and they'll need nvidia to provide integrated graphics solution to both desktop and laptop. Cell based Apple laptop? Wow, I hope it can run PS3 game natively.

Cyrix is dead, and I just don't see VIA can revive the once arse-kicking x86 CPU maker back to mainstream, not to mention enthusiast, market. Sometimes I hope some Korean and Japanese big company, such as NEC, Samsung or SONY would buy VIA and use their money, resources and marketing power to make the third x86 competitor. Otherwise I just don't see any reason to get a dual core VIA NANO. Maybe as embedded linux machine for some specialized application, but certainly not something as general purpose use.

It's really always funny how all the Intel fanboys laugh about the dying AMD without even considering the result that would follow regarding their intel cpus...the best example is Creative, no competition, no worries for them.

I really hope AMD will provide us with some new amazing cpus in the future, at least in the ATI section it's becoming better and better, nvidia selling out disabled laptop gpus.

Another funny thing about Intel was lately in the news. There was a test between Intel and VIA chips with Pc Mark. Intel got ~2500 points, VIA around 1800. After the tests they changed JUST the id of the VIA chip so PC mark things it is an Intel chip. The result was 2700 points...

On the stock cooler? I don't think any of the Core 2 Duos/Quads can do that, can they?

E8500 and E8400 can hit that with stock cooler. Heat is not an issue with 45nm generation Intel chips. They all hit voltage limit before overheating.

I'm not sure about Q9450, but I've heard people who have QX9650 can get that thing up to 4GHz on stock cooler as well. However, the price........ I'd buy a MacBook instead. I don't need a Pentium III to run DOS programs.

Intel architecture still offers significant advantage on single thread applications than AMD's Phenom. However, Deneb at 3.0GHz can hurt Nehalem 2.66GHz very badly if AMD put price at $235.

Cant friggin get it stable at 3.6Ghz with 1.3v in it. Just tried 3.51Ghz atm and i can surf the web and stuff just friggin stress testing straight away it friggin fails...!!! ARGHH! so frustarted atm!

Yeah you're right. I should did some fact check before I post that. Apparently there are some claimed to have done that, but without verification.

Man I really like AMD, I'm not sure why but I just like underdog companies that come through and take the lead from a company as big as intel. As usual, AMD will NOT overprice their cpu's either.

Creative.... I can't recall even once that I ever bought their products. I still remember the old day when they dominates 8bit and 16bit sound card market, and they SUCK! However, they have Taiwanese board makers as their partner, as well as support by almost every game of the day. For some reason I always bought Gravis Ultrasound and even had the Interwave version. X-Wing's music sounds like John William is directing instead of horrid FM synthetic garbage of the 16bit day. Eventually Gravis ran out of business (part of the reason is back stabbing by AMD), and I resort in using SB16-compatible sound card from unknown vendor and Turtlebeach Maui for midi. That was the time when sound and midi quality is the sh_t. (Graphics is the sh_t today). In the end, AWE32 fiasco didn't kill Creative, low quality onboard sound chip did.

Yeah, we know about that. They suck compared to Q6600. That's why we're interested to see how 45nm Deneb would do. It won't hurt us as consumers with more competition that was lack of for two years. I don't have bounds of any of these companies anyway.

When I sold my SLI rig, the guy bought it asked me about throw in a Q6600 in place of E8200. I told him to wait. E8200 at 3.2GHz is way fast enough for now, and he'll have a chance to get cheap Q9xxx if he can wait.
