Vista uses 1GB of RAM, all the time. But XP doesn't have the ability to use DX10, which is necessary for future years' gaming.

To be honest if I were building a new PC now, I'd opt for Vista probably.
When it was released there was the initial uproar about it being crap, full of bugs and there being very little support for it. Now all that b*tching seems to have died down so I see no problems with picking Vista. We'll all probably be using it in a year or two anyway.Comment

Xp for stability. However, Vista's should be coming out w/ a main service pack soon. If you want Vista, it should be okay at this point. Drivers are readily available for the most part. Its really up to you. Good Luck!Comment

...the BIOS? If you mean flash the Motherboard's BIOS to a more recent version, then you don't really have to do that unless you've got a problem. There are no Vista BIOS flashes; the manufacturer provides the flashing files. (unless it's a vidcard voltage mod)Comment
