    AF useless at close distances?

So according to Tweakguides, texture filtering low is trilinear, and medium is 2x AF in 2142.

I don't see much of a difference on weapon textures. Texture's on high, look at the text on the side of the gun. And no, it's not crappy JPEG compression, it looks like this in the original screenshots (BMP) too.

    Low:

    Medium:

No, I'm almost certain that it won't affect the gun. If BF2142 is anything like BF2 in the AF department, then if AF is completely off then you should be able to see very clearly exactly where the textures go from good to bad, to worse, to worst on the ground while you're walking. I think I can even see where it goes from good to bad in one of your screenshots.

Yeah, I see what you mean, there's often lines on the ground where the texture suddenly changes.

      Right?

Yup, that's exactly what I saw. It's a lot easier to see it in the game while you're walking, though.

Put it up to 16x if you have anything more powerful than an 8800 card. Less than 8xAF is absolutely useless.

Nah, you don't need an 8800 to max AF. I used to have it forced to 16x with my 8600gt and I didn't notice an FPS drop

Hmm, 8600GT? That's about the same as the 3650 I think, I'll try 8x AF first, then 16 if there's no performance hit. Do you have a DDR2 or GDDR3 8600?

I don't use it anymore, but it was GDDR3 256mb

Wow. 16x AF is amazing. I had to force it through Catalyst though.

Oh, so I guess it does affect the gun! I can read that writing on the side better when you've done it with 16xAF over "medium"

Did you get a performance hit? I don't think you should...

You shouldn't unless you're running some insane resolution. The performance hit from AF comes from scaling. 16xAF compared to 4xAF, i.e. 4x more performance hit over the same resolution. It can be very big on big monitors (2560x1600).

Yeah he's playing at 1280x1024 (like me) so he should be fine with 16xAF. I was fine with it with my 8600GT.
