I'm upgrading from my old P4 Prescott/Geforce 6200 to this.

Any objections before I plop down the $1100+?

Get a motherboard with an Intel Chipset, not Nvidia.

Unless you're absolutely sure you're going to get SLI, don't go for it. Intel chipsets perform better at stock speeds and overclocked.
Look for the P5K Deluxe or P5Q Deluxe.

My brother has those speakers, and they are rubbish :)

Raidmax don't make good cases. They are usually very plasticy and tacky. Maybe look and getting something nicer such as an Antec 900,1200 or Coolermaster 690

I agree on the Intel chipset for the motherboard.

But I suggest a different Video card... I don't know why so many people suggest those GTS cards.. prob better off with a GT.

I would agree with Alex, unless Sli (which is pointless, and an utter waste of $$$) get a Intel chipped mobo. The P5K deluxe as Alex pointed out is great. Or any P35 mobo with a brand name i.e. Asus, Abit, Gigabyte.

The GFX is fine i don't see any trouble with it, and the procs is definitely a good choice!

Get a P5K and a better case.


Also, don't go with a PSU that comes with a case, they're usually awful. Get something like a corsair or antec, which are higher quality.

Yeah, I think I'll get an Intel chipset mobo then. What do you guys recommend? Preferably something cheap but good.

But the GTS is the 512MB version, it's better than the GT (unlike the 300 some and 600 some MB versions). Besides I have a $50 off combo with the RAM and the graphics card. :nod: I really considered the 3870 or 8800GT but the combo was too good to resist.

The reason I wanted that case/PSU combo was because it had a 5 star rating on Newegg. Now that I read the reviews it seems the case is junk. So I will consider another one now.

EDIT: Getting a case and psu separately kind of puts me above budget. How about I go with a cheaper motherboard (~$100 perhaps?)?

BAAAAAAAD getting a cheap MoBo is a very bad choice, as is a bad PSU. People often overlook them since they aren't the flasy video card or CPU, but they're still just as important. If you want to save money, get a slower CPU and overclock it instead.

Works perfect for my needs... the Bios is outdated out the box but with a updater built right into the Bios you only need to download the new one..then put it on a disk and it reads it right off it and your in business!

Ok, I have it all built now. It runs no problems... except that the HDD was DOA. Started squeaking halfway through the Vista install, and it did not pass the Seagate diagnostics once Vista eventually installed. Knoppix Live CD seems to run fine, however. The LGA775 stock heatsink was a killer to mount. :cry:

So I'm getting a WD 640GB instead, which seems by the reviews to be more reliable.

Those Xingmatek's are a cheap (albeit very good) knock off of the Thermalright Ultra Extreme. They are very good apparently.
