So ones more than the other (8800) what should I get? is 512mb video ram enough for 1440 * 900 res? and will one of these cards do me for around 2 years ?

512mb RAM is perfectly fine for that resolution. I personally say 8800gts G92

I think they'd both perform the same for you since it looks like your processor could be a bottleneck

The 8800 GTS G92 is amazing, I can play all my games on highest settings without a problem with 1680*1050.

You need to get a better processor first though...

i forgot to update my system specs, my cpu is actually an e8400 wat 3.6ghz...does that change anything about the card ?

Yeh i had the same processor with an 7900gt and it was bottlenecking then so your gonna need a new motherboard

I reccomend going with an inexpensive AM2 motherboard and something like an AMD 6000+ which is good enough for most tasks, someone will probably try to swing you towards intel on this board but for people on a smallish budjet AMD is better because of the cheaper motherboards and their lower end parts or on a par with intels if you dont plan on overclocking

*cough* dont buy a graphics card yet the next generation of Nvidia and ATI will most probably be released next month *cough*

Because it's much better than the 9600 GT, it doesn't matter how many x'es there is after the cards name

Definitely the 8800GTS G92, its much better than the 9600GT and don't worry about the 512mb of video RAM, its more than enough for 1440x900.

Well, imho, it depends on your budget.... If you can afford the 8800GTS than sure why not.... But its overkill on a 19in monitor....

Then again, I wouldn't get a 8400 while I have a 19in monitor, but thats just me.

480w should be enough, but I would never trust a generic PSU (as in a no-name one that comes with your PC case).
And I quote myself (I've said this a lot. )

I would never go with the PSU that comes with a case. They are cheaper and not as reliable as better brands like corsair or antec. A bad PSU can ruin your whole PC
