New Rig

Buying a new rig this summer so I will post up my wish list see whet you guys think, I will probably not buy a monitor but I put one in just in case, I will have $2000 saved up by the summer. I also plan on getting the HD4870 as it is not available yet I put in the Visiontek HD3870 X2 that what I would of bought if I was getting it now.

Also wondering of getting a motherboard with 3 PCI 2.0 slots so I can get Crossfire X in the future.

Tell me what you think suggest alternatives and stuff.

wow. That's an expensive rig. But I don't really see anything wrong with it at a quick glance.

You should probably a CPU cooler (tuniq is my favorite) as well as a sound card+speakers, unless you have a really good set as it is.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head this late at night.

The ASUS Realtek sound card is good enough, as for speakers I put them in there on the bottom of the list. I dont use speakers anyway since I have the Cyber Snipa Sonar 5.1 headset, BTW thats the best headset I ever had.

The rig looks awesomesauce nothing to be changed really, just wondering if thats a good PSU or not :S

Found 1000w PSU at the same price, and updated wish list. Yeah if I want to CrossfireX in the future I need a good PSU.

800 watts is probably already more than you need.

What eagle101 was meaning: is the PSU of good quality? If it isn't you run the risk of ruining that entire expensive system.

Its more important to get a good quality PSU rather than one with the largest number of watts. That just makes you someone with more money than PC building sense.

Cheers for correcting me mate. Yes thats what i meant and a krap PSU will total your whole PC Jake is right, try to go for an Antec, Corsair, or Cooler master. You know brand names. Oh Zalman as well or OCZ are good!

Samsung F1 750GB is faster (cheaper and quieter) than the WD7500AAKS.

If you're gonna spend that kind of money, why are you going Crossfire? A 790i board and a 8800GTS SLI can be had for the same price and will definately be faster.


Not that I recommend spending that kind of money.... (The most I recommend spending is a 780i +8800GTS SLI +DDR2. Anything higher isn't worth it imo.... )

Edit: I read the thing about the 4750.... It all depends on how ATI prices it....

imo, screw the 3750 X2, and get 2x 8800GT's. Much better performance and it will cost you around $150 less:

I definitely agree with changing the OCZ PSU to a 620W Corsair.

The Antec P182 is what i would go for as a case, but the Antec 900 is still a god case, so its more up to your preference.

Read the OP carefully.
He only put the X2 in as a placeholder forth 4870 though, so he doesn't actually intend to get it.

When the 4870 comes out well have to see how it compares to what Nvidia has to offer.

1010W power supply, what are you trying to run? A nuclear facility?

I'd go with a max of 700W supply.

^ Vika is quite right lol, 1010W Psu is not needed in this situation i would advice a 800W Max, and 700W least.

800W would do fine. By the time you need a 1KW (heaven forbid), i'm sure there will be new technology out or maybe even a completely new standard.
