I used AOA DVD Ripper when on XP, but I haven't really looked for any Vista programs at the minute.

Any good recommendations for good FREE DVD ripping programs that work with Vista?

ATM i have one called Magic DVD Ripper.. its not bad.. but it loses a bit of quality in the process.. anyone know of a better one?

You should be able to change encoding settings so it doesn't compress the video. But, then you end up with at least 3gb per file.

I use DVD shrink along with AnyDVD.. works pretty good to remove that pesky protection :)

Go to Video_TS folder and double click the first entry. Or start your favorite DVD player and choose "Open"

I wonder what that "ripper" of yours does since it looks like an ordinary DVD. you could have copied the folders straight from the DVD to your HDD.

To me a ripper extracts the content, removes protection and encodes the video an audio to a single (mostly avi) file.

Oh. Cloning a DVD is making a COPY of it. It's not ripping. Since you obviously have only one DVD "station" in your comp it copies the files in the DVD to hard disk temporarily before burning them on to a empty disc.

What do you mean you tried that? Opening the files in DVD player?

i have read a few places that Clone DVD is one of the best
