it would be easier to say just follow the memory finder on newegg for example by the model of your laptop like a Dell Latitude D820 etc... very easy and you can avoid all the technical info that you posted. And even a 10year old could replace ram chips in a laptop... either the slots are all on the back under a panel or one,two slots are under the keyboard and most keyboards just pop off after taking a few screws out after popping the above cover off. very simple.

As for the model, its not an international brand. Its a domestic brand. Parts are bought in and the computers put together here.

OK, so what I did was find a laptop which uses the same RAM and checked which parts suit it. Dont know if its right though.

Any mistakes I should avoid when buying RAM? Something I need to know? I find RAM to be something different, compared to a GPU, which is much simplier to choose.

Here's what I usually do when upgrading laptop memory:

- look up the specs of the laptop to find the max supported RAM.

run CPUZ and find out:
- what memory is in the laptop (yours is PC2 5300 @ 667mhz).
- what voltage the memory is running at.
- what CAS timings the memory is. (optional)

then I head over to newegg and find the same spec'd memory: (ie: PC2-5300), then I narrow down the memory by voltage and pick memory thats running at the same voltage.

I don't know if matching the voltage is really that important, but I always do it, and I've never had a problem. I dont usually even worry about CAS timings on a laptop. theoretically you should be able to plug in any PC2-5400 sodimms and it should work fine.

edit: oh and remember laptops take sodimm memory, not desktop memory

lwalrus, didn't know u had to do allllllll that! all i did was went on amazon found a stick of 1X2gb Corsair DDR2 ram with the same speed as mines which is 667 bought it opened the ram chamber and inserted it in and voe la done! well thats except if ur RAm is under teh Kboard which is harder to assemble.

buying ram for a laptop isn't rocket science and shouldn't really be compared to desktop ram when your looking to Overclock and have the extra performance a desktop will deliver. Just buy what you had posted you found over at newegg and don't think about it.

Better safe than sorry. I do my research meticulously. I did find a local site which sells the same items displayed in Neweggs for an additional ~10 dollar price tag, but considering Neweggs shipping is ~6 and Im living in Eastern Europe, its a fair deal.

Ohh price research is fine...otherwise I was meaning the type and speeds of the ram, laptops just don't require that much attention in that area unless of course is a Alien ware gaming laptop.

Nao. Thats exactly what I meant. Specifications research. I dont want to buy a part which I plug in and trashes my computer (Im paranoid), or gives me a BSOD or wont start at all. Me is scared, hold me.:cry:
