Assuming you want to game with this.... I'd say #3 of those three, but why do you want blu-ray?

Don't touch #1 with a barge pole if you want to game, since the GPU is pretty poor and Apples are often overpriced. Are 2 and 3 from Rock? If so, reviews here:

Well, blu-ray burners aren't cheap, and HD may have lost the "format war" but blu-ray isn't even close to being in everyone's homes yet. If it gains popularity to the extent where it really will take over DVD and become the standard, prices will drop.

Until then, the price doesn't justify the amount of use you'll get out of it, IMO.

2 factors to consider.

Cooling and battery life.

These two will put huge dents on your requirements, namely "portability" and "gaming/recreational use".

You can somewhat neutralise the heat with a laptop cooler (which is a MUST for powerhouse laptops, pick the best) but if they are built bad, youll suffer.

And, you wouldnt want to have a laptop that only has 1.5 hours battery lifetime, unless you buy those xpack batteries to go.

I ditched desktop PCs and went towards laptops, the price is really worth it if youre a student, mobile. As a gamer, heat will kick you in the groin.

I'd recommend a Dell laptop with a good Nvidia graphics chipset... also I highly recommend you pay the extra 150$ and get the Complete care Warranty coverage vs the regular warranty. They will replace anything on it and/or the whole thing if you get it for the next 4 years. Well worth it if your a student and will carry it many places.

Can't agree more with that - I got 4yr warranty free on mine, helps to talk to them on the phone, so far I had a new battery (2), screen and keyborad - all for free.

Yeah it is kinda.. accidents happen and the Complete care coverage that Dell offers for a very low price it is great! I'm Dell Certified and I deal directly with them on a daily bases and seeing first hand what happens to laptops in the hands of a student is amazing!

Batteries on the other hand well..they are covered for a certain period of time after sale but isn't covered under the extended warranties or the complete care for some reason so best to get the best one they offer for that laptop you buy.

forget about portability if your getting a 17" laptop. I have one (Dell xps) and its heavy as hell to carry around on a regular basis. The power brick alone for it is 1kg. Thats not to say it isnt a damn good laptop, but there is no way I'm going to travel with it or take it to class.
