I've stripped everything but a few basic's for net,and minor windows functions... now keep in mind thats when its idled and not doing nothing. I do turn a few on manually when I go to play a game but till then its bare bones!
If your going to view taskmanager also keep in mind that it added that process "task manager" to the list so subtract that one if you haven't already. Also a few svhosts, punkbuster services winlogon etc all can be turned on manually.
Follow this page for starters to help you out.

That is true alex, that users complained when switching from 2000 pro to xp, and in fact only a year ago i switched to xp, but i did not complain about resources,
my whole reason for waiting is because of the major virus attacks with win xp ...
if you rember right it took forever just to get the right gaming patch for it so it would properly with xp..games like ravenshield were the big hit etc etc...
i mean also, think about it many many massive viruses attacked xp when it came out...i love you virus etc etc, so i waited for a long time because of that..
it was never about the performanceComment

LMAO! ^^^ If you watch what you download, watch what email files you read and open...and stay off certain warez/porn sites you wouldn't have any issues with a virus. This goes for any OS not just XP....but man thats dedication to stay with Win2K till only a year ago!! For a gamer (which I believe you are since your posting here) I find it very hard to see you playing anything modern till within the last year so I'm amazed!
I run a anti-virus (avast Home) on one of 5 machines I have running..otherwise NOTHING is on them in the means of a anti-virus as I know where I surf and I know what I download. The risks today of getting a virus that "Blows " up your computer is far from happening...and nothing apart of sticking in the ole OS disk and reinstalling is really going to matter. If you have a hard time accepting a reinstall cause of data..its best that anyone keep a backup of valuable files on a external anyway. I don't believe any one of my machines has gone without a reload of a OS beyond 5months as it just keeps them running top notch...all important files are either on a external or a Central Server running only bare bones with high capacity drives.
strange... very. Try IE cause I've checked on 3 different computers now and it works fine with either IE or firefox.

here, i'll help: http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/main/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=1891255
short version: vista is two-by-oober for folks who have money, time, and sanity to burn in order to help MS troubleshoot their new, extra-shiny, beta-class drm product.
err, i mean operating system.
and yes, it works especially shinily in crysis.

I went from 95 to 98SE to XP. Just because its newer, doesnt mean its better.
My friends XP Home runs at 180MBs idle, and he hasnt formatted his drive in 2 years, its infested god knows what gremlins.
My other bud got a laptop, and he couldnt break through 30FPS with SWAT4 nor COD4. Install XP and he ran at the peak FPS. 100+Comment

I find it rather odd that it did since BF2's system requirements were XP or higher.
I really don't know anything else to say..... rather mind boggled!
