    - I value my FPS with my games, I run a mid-range laptop. XP is by far better solution on my rig, than Vista is
    - I use less than 300MBs of RAM with XP on "normal use". I idle below 220MBs. On startup I idle below 200. (185)
    - I like to have ALL, EVERy driver available, at any time
    - User interface is not that important for me, as I use "Windows Classic" theme on my XP anyway

As of now, changing to Vista from XP is completely needless and unnecessary for me.

A dual core Turion, with 2 GBs of RAM and Mobile 8600GS had a 100% FPS increase in SWAT4 and BF2, aswell as COD4, switching from Vista to XP.

Final verdict? Way too early. Lets wait another year.

-I simply don't feel the need for it.
-DX10 isn't a big deal for me, even with 8 series cards.
-Don't feel like spending on a new copy of Windows when the current one works fine.

I'll just wait for the next Windows I guess.

I just remembered that I do often have problems printing something through network printer hooked up to my mom's PC. Sometimes everything can be REALLY slow, although it still works. I don't have that problem on my lappy which is running XP so I assume that the XP-Vista clash is the culprit. :p

Doesn't bother me enough to switch back to XP though.

I assume you are implying that newer games like Crysis and Bioshock don't look better in DX10 on an 8800?

How can you assert that when you own neither? It may be pricey, but I definitely feel that Vista+an 8800 was worth it.

I do have an 8800GT on my other rig. The graphics in DX9 is plenty pretty.

Edit: The topic is Vista, not DX10, so I'll skip Vista and get the next Windows that comes out.

Simply as the advantages over XP do not warrant the price that MS are asking, frankly there is little more to say without waffling.

              XP is totally finished.
Also I like to customize my stuff, and I don't want to relearn stuff for vista.

                -takes forever to update
-makes my HD light stay a solid blue all the time (like it's always running)
                -ugly interface
-pain in the arse driver support

Why I switched and stayed with Vista
-Nice Interface, if I didn't like it at any given time I launched windowblinds
-Uses less resources with the exact same software installed
-If a program crashes, it is automatically closed or restarted instead of taking down the entire system, of freezing everything
                  -More administrative possibilities and customization.
-More details are available for almost anything
-Less cryptic error/success messages in the logs

                      1. My current PC would never run it, so I'm waiting for a new one in June

                        1. I am happy with XP so why upgrade? Let someone else be the lab rat.
                        2. DX10 may yet be made available for XP (I hope)
                        3. Vista is infested with DRM, caring more about the rights of content providers than those of the user who paid for it.

IF dx10 came to XP vista would probably flop even more than it already has. MS cant do that.

MS will probably never do it, since it is the only real reason to get vista.
But others have tried, although they seem to have given up.

Same, but i will get it when DX10 only games come out.

Vista and XP are designed for different computers... think of it this way: You could run windows 95 on your computer and it would be a lot faster than XP, but noone would do that. Why? First because W95 is ugly, second because W95 can't use the same hardware as well as XP... You can't run newer games faster on W95.

Same here, right, there might not be much difference between DX9/DX10, but few games actually uses DX10 to the fullest... And when true DX10 games + better gfx cards comes out, noone wants to be left on poor old XP just because it doesn't support the same features.

Right, you don't want to upgrade right now, but think of it this way: how many use Windows 2000 right now? Vista's time will soon come
