Hi guys,
After the great response on the headphone thread, I have another Q that I hope you guys can help me with. I apologise if this is off-topic, but it is related to COD4 in that, I'm having issues with COD4 :)
I recently bought a HP m9152p. It's vista-64bit, 4gb mem, 2xSATA HD's and an nVidia 8500 GT card. When purchasing, I asked the lady if I can upgrade the card to say, a 9600. She said "sure you can". So I did just that the day after.
And then the issues began...
After a good bit of COD4'ing, I hear a drive start up (I assume it's a drive.. *something* starts whirring. I've ruled out the CD-ROMS). When it does this, the game starts to judder judder judder. (Perhaps the GFX-card fan? Id unno)..
After this, perhaps 15 mins, my screen will go blank, and it's locked up. The monitor says "no input signal" and then "Going to Sleep". I have to hold down the power-button on the main PC case and start all over. I don't even get a blue screen of death. One time I did get a crash dump report, and it mentioned the display drivers.
Yesterday when playing, I didn't even get the black screen straight away. I got a "Input resolution is not correct, please set to 1650 x 1050", but the machine had locked up by then, so I guess this is just another iteration of it dying.
I briefly considered overheating, but it happens so fast some times that I really don't know... The internals seem quite cool however the PSU is pumping serious hot air out. I am wondering if it is, in fact, the PSU. I read somewhere that the PSU's that are put in pre-built machines aren't actually that good and in the process of upgrading my video card, I've inadvertantly overpowered it?
Anyone got experience of this? My old PC that overheated could be solved by cleaning the fans (this is brand new, however), but I always got a BSOD, never just "oh god, bye!".
Many many thanks in advance to you lovely fellows.
