8800 GT 512 is the keyword in your post. And Alex you have a core 2 duo which can handle a heck of a lot more at any time. aka less bottlenecking. I'm not familiar with that chipset but I would say your CPU might be holding it back a tad. If not that make sure you don't have any random resource hogs running in the background.

I don't know about your Nvidia control panel settings, but that makes all the difference for me. Maybe set it on Balanced, or even Performance. CSS for example when I have it set on quality I get around 50-65 fps, with everything maxed out, then when I change it to Performance I get 80+ fps.
With that setup you should be running everything fine? I have everything to a good medium-high on Cod4 w/2xAA, I but I'm getting 70+ fps, although I'm in 800x600.Comment

QFT. What resolution are you running?
Yes the 8800GT is faster, but the 8800 GTS 320 is by no means slow. Its still a high-performance video card.Comment

Whens the last time you formatted. I do it about once every 4-5 months. It just makes everything run faster. Might take a few hours but IMO its worth it. And yes I automatically defrag every night.Comment

Ok then i guess my idea just got served. I'm looking around online for anyone with this problem. No solutions yet. But I have found quite a few with it. Could possibly be an error in the game structure. You did say other games ran fine?Comment

Well... BF2, 2142, CSS, the orange box besides TF2, all run fine.
I also tried Crysis and I seem to only get 10 FPS with all medium AA off lol...Comment

But the other games arent exactly demanding unlike crysis....maybe if the power connector isn't plugged in properly it doesnt need the power for bf2 and the likes but in crysis it needs it but it won't work....sorry if it doesnt make sense I'm on me iPod :)Comment

A drastic performance drop can also be caused by overheating CPU. If the application pushes the temps too high the hertz are dropping fast to compensate heat. But this is a really far fetch, but worth checking.
I would keep my eyes pealed for CPU usage during gaming. You've got dual cpu so having the virus scanners etc. really should not be a problem at all.Comment
