Good free Anti-virus?

Yep, I'm looking for a free (preferably with no ads) antivirus program that is light on the system and still does it's job properly :)

I've been using AVG Free for a while and I absolutely love it. Now, I've had a few mysterious BSOD's lately and I haven't had any at all since I turned off AVG for like 2 days now. I'm gonna keep it turned off for a few days now and then switch back to having it on, if the crashes come back it is most likely AVG that messes the whole thing up.

So, if AVG is the problem, can you people recommend any good free antivirus programs? It doesn't have to have any spyware related tools :)

I use avast anti virus and it works great! I've clicked on a few bad links and it blocked any viruses that tried to get in. Its pretty light on the system and doesn't interfere with anything.

i use Kaspersky Anti Virus and its great! just get the latest version from 9down.com

I have the paid for version of Kaspersky on my laptop, and it's awful. It bugs you about every little thing that happens on your computer and is simply driving me mad

I did a little browsing on Google and its telling me that Avast! is a better AV program. Anyone disagree?

I was in the same boat..was going along happy with no AV but saw this thread and ive just downloaded and installed Avast! looking good so far :)

It works on 64x and is free.
