^somewhat authoritative, somewhat dated breakdown of the 5.1 field. x-fi and stereo gaming is kind of (but not totally what with the newer bells and whistles with 3-d sound virtualization) a waste.

i've got the zalmans, had them for a couple of years now, still perform excellently, and the directional sound is great. they are very comfy, and the only problem so far is that the covering over the earpiece has started to separate a little from the foam. purely cosmetic defect, and after 2 years, i don't give a hoot.

the bass lacks thud (see the review for the reason why), but i'm not such a fan of constant thudding directly in my ears. you can increase the total bass output via the x-fi UI, but i've never felt the need, and it probably wouldn't sound so great, anyhoo.

they are ok for music, but just ok.

they make a new model now with the mic built in, and somebody else on the forums swore up a blue streak that "his dam zalman's WERE TRUE 5.1, by golly, by golly, by golly", so things may have changed.

i don't yet buy it.

Well... i was going to buy them until Scan being the useless people that they are said they can only ship to the billing address... not much use when i'm at uni.

The only other place that has them in stock for roughly the same price is a mini shop on Amazon, and i'm not really keen on having to deal with RMA's with a one man show.

So, i'll ring and rant at Scan tommorow see what they can come up with, otherwise i'll have to wait until either Overclockers get them back in stock or Amazon see's the light and knocks a tenner off them.... the latter being as likely as Redfield agreeing with someone

The Ebuyer plan will only work if Alex has bought something from them before, they also can only deliver to the billing address, for the first delivery at least.
That's what happened to me in October, couldn't send it to my dads work.

Great headset. Didn't really fully apreciate how good it was until I used my $40 Sony earbuds on my ipod and they sounded like crap compared to what I used to think of them. Comes with a usb extension for the headphone and mic jacks so you can use the usb sound chip if you use an integrated sound card like me, or you could just use your x-fi by not using the usb. All headphones have a wear in period of a couple days before they reach the best sound though (they really do and I'm not an audiophile either) and these are not an exception.

um i was forum surfing a week ago here and saw that link that alex posted clicked it liked it bought it! lol, alex that Audio FX u got linked in the first page aint bad i just got it two days ago and its lovely especially when using the bass in game and to heavy metal \m/

Honestly, with CMSS3D virtual surround sound on, my £10 Sennheiser Ear buds sound a hell lot better and don't hurt my ears.
