Motherboard not compatible with 8800gt?

So, my parents let me open an early Christmas present :), and it happened to be my 8800gt...




So, I pop it in my motherboard to try it out, and the computer won't boot. It won't even post.

I know my power supply is fine, because I took the card and my power supply and tried it in the motherboard of one of my dads computers, and it worked fine.

I then tried to update the motherboard bios, which I did, but still no luck.

So, is my motherboard just not compatible with PCI-E 2.0? Its some cheap low end board I got when I was low on money, so that might be why.

Fortunently, I'm getting a new motherboard for Christmas (Gigabyte DS3-L), which should work.

I just thought it was weird how it didnt work, and now I have to wait until Tuesday.. But if you guys have any ideas, that would be great..

1) Did you unistall your previous GFX drivers?

2) I had an issue with the fact that when i put mine in, all my BIOS settings changed. Make sure your primary boot device is set to the HDD with your OS on it.

3) Check the PCIe settings.

My motherboard doesn't even beep or show the POST screen, so drivers and boot devices don't really matter since I can't get to them.

have you tried putting your old GFX back in, uninstalling the drivers and then plugging your GT in?

Yeah, well that's what I'm doing now. But understand, with the 8800, the computer wont even start, not even the BIOS.

But I've looked around and it seems like these cards aren't compatible with the VIA chipsets (which my current motherboard has), but my new motherboard should be fine.

PCI-E 2.0 is relatively new technology and many motherboards do not have 2.0, but only have PCI-E 16x. So that is probably your problem.

yes well 2.0 is supposed to be backwards compatible with pci-e 1.

i'm pretty sure its the chipset incompatibility since I've looked around any many people have been having this problem.

but, for Christmas I'm getting a new mobo with the p35 chipset, so it should work.

Nope im running the exacly the same card on a PCI-E 1.1 motherboard

make sure the 4 pin connector is plugged in to the graphics card

Mini can you post a link to your board?Also check if you mobo maker has any new bios updates.

It's an ECS P4M890T-M2

Its a cheap budget board, and I'm getting a new board anyways for Christmas so I'm not that worried about this one.

And I did update the BIOS but still doesn't work.

again...did you plug in the 6-pin pci-e plug from your psu?

does your psu have such a plug...

well if you read my first post, you will see that it does actually in fact work in another computer with the same card and power supply as in my computer. I took my power supply out and used it in the other computer and it worked. So, it is my motherboard causing the problem.
