What is a decent cpu fan for a q6600 ? I need a compromise between price, performance, and size(small). No plans for overclocking, i just need it to do its job and keeping the cpu nice and cool. Any recommendations?

Arctic freezer pro...or Zalman...both relatively cheap and pretty good.. -
If your not overclocking, then there really is no need for an aftermarket cooler. Use the reference Intel Heatsink.Comment

If you don't want to overclock, the Arctic Freezer Pro. That'll keep it relatively cool. However, if you want to overclock, there is better on the market.Comment

arctic cooler freezer 7 pro is the best for price/performance. kept my 1ghz oc'd pd 915 cool/quiet.
i bought a thermalright si128 (now si-128se) and put a arctic cooling unidirectional 120mm fan on my recently acquired e6600.
never hear it; never gets above 60C. happy all around. cost ~$55.00 though. the freezer 7 pro will do about as good for half the price.Comment

I have the 680ilt and i found a post somewhere on the net saying the chipset hsf gets in the way of the mounting bracket, so i went for the freeer pro 7.Comment
