8800gt Oc ?

Hey all. We canceled the dell order for the MSI 8800gt. So now my parents are looking for another card (And of course looking for the lowest price..) Im wondering if i can OC this http://www.shopblt.com/cgi-bin/shop/...er_id=!ORDERID! Card to say.. 660? 670 Mhz core clock? I mean considering the others i were looking at were at 660-675 I think i could OC this one to 660 and it'd be fine. Right? Or do the factory Oc's come with speacil cooling? also, should i OC with Rivatuner?

Personally I always pay the bottom dollar for my graphics card and do the OC myself. However I could consider making an exception to this practise on 8800GT's part. The reasoning is that 8800GT is a single slot cooler and thus runs very very hot. The OC results varies because of this. The good thing about these factory OCed cards is that they GUARANTEE the clocks making it result riskless endeavour.

Rivatuner is very good.

yah i hear ya.. Well im probally going to get a BFG 8800GT OC for christmas.. The OC isnt as great as others, what do you think? also i think im gonna get a Thermaltake DuOrb Universal VGA Cooler for the card, will it fit?

Im gonna give you the same advice as my last post

im not sure if its worth the hassle, you can get the new 8800gts 512mb for nearly the same cost as the 8800gt and the duo orb cooler, that way you get the big nvidia dual slot cooler and 128 shader pipes compared to 112 on the GT

The gts doesnt offer much more performance,and why say buy the gts for a dual slot,then replace it with a different cooler?you make no sense.

My 8800GT Runs at 55C idle and around 62C Under load as it stands after about 30 mins running FFOW. So.....

try cod4, i get about 67C on that, but people are getting 90C without problems with the card

What about the 8800GT cooler noise? All the reviews I've read say it's bad. And that's one quite big consideration for me.

I have had my EVGA 8800GT (650Mhz default) up to 720Mhz core without any problems using RivaTuner. I do however keep the fan speed at manual with it set on 65%, any louder and its very audible. So far it has been very stable. On air the temperature stays around 65C plus or minus a few.

A friend here in town has his EVGA 8800GT on water and its cranked up to 830Mhz core with a volt mod. :yay:

No, that way he wouldnt have to get the duo orb because the stock cooler is an excellent design he could sell the 8800gt on ebay and get the gts for nearly the same price as the duo orb and the 8800gt therfore the more logical option
