New PSU Requested

When I got home today, my computer was off. That is unusual because I always leave it on. When I turned it on, nothing happened. The fans came on and stuff lit up, but there was no change in the monitor's status and my G15 did not light up or show num lock being on. The mouse wasn't getting power either.

I did a basic connections check in the case, but didn't see anything glaring. Could someone give me a clue for what to check next? Any suggestions?

Well that's a bummer, but I think that you're right. Looking inside the PSU, I see several visibly burnt circuits. I tried to get pics, but every AA battery in the house is dead. ><

Anyway, it looks as though I need a PSU. Someone link me to a good one that can run an 8800 gtx, 3 hdds, 2 dvd r/w, an Intel Dual Core, 3 case fans, and assorted garbage. I was using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...003&Tpk=17-713... It worked fine for a little less than a year... Reading some of the comments makes me look back and wonder why I settled for a POS when the rest of the system is so awesome. Even if this isn't the problem, I want a new one.

Again, thanks for the diagnosis, now go spend my money on newegg.

well i'd start a new thread "PSU recommendations plz" or somethign like that, those computer goo roo's love that stuff.

I would go with a pc power and cooling 750 quad,it has a lot of juice and high efficiency.I have heard of nothing but good things about thsi psu.

i was going to post a link to it on new egg then realized as i posted u rdy had a link :p,my friend has one and ir runs nice.

Plus it has one 12v rail which means so additional plug ins for your video card.

I somehow knew you would suggest antec, my question is that many watts i've heard people say "electric bill" wel does it run up the bill? if you dont need that many i mean?

if system pulls say 450 wats & you got a 1000wat , whats really being drawn thru the electric meter the 450 or 1000???

What ever the machine is drawing currently is used for billing. Not the max supplyable power.

Anyway you don't really need over 700W monster since any modern comp can only reach around 450W max with dual gfx cards, monster CPU, 4 mem sticks, 3-4 hard drives etc.

What they use to beef up the watts on PSU are the 3.3V and 5V rails. They might even make up 100W out of 700W. And you draw probably 25W max out of those rails thus 75W is for reserve like it ever would be used. The rest 600W are from 12V rail. This is the main rail and is drawn upon by processor, motherboard, graphics cards etc.

Well, the point is that you want to have some juice in the reserve if you plan this PSU to last several updates. Computers are reaching a de facto limit what they use for current. Rather the consumption is coming a bit down. And I mean single gfx card systems.

The problem usually is the connectors which might change in the future.
