What's better?

These are the set prices and they are from dell. Don't say I shoudl buy somewhere else because it's cheaper. My parents are paying for it, and they want dell because they already have a line of credit with them. SO here it is, it is worth 400 to move to the 8800 gtx, or 220 for sli 8600 gts's

kinda hard to tell without knowing the system specs, but if price isnt a concern, get the gtx.

I'm thinking a oem gtx isnt worth another 400 though, but a gtx would kick 8600sli's arse. :hmm:

Buy with the 8600 from Dell. Buy your own 8800. Replace 8600 with 8800. Sell 8600. Save $200

ultra is not worth the premium; it's there only because the world has suckers, and some of them have lots and lots of someone else's money (or a line of credit), and dell wants it.

gtx is the obvious choice.

oh, and does anyone have any of the new dell cases? how are the thermals, and what sort of PSU are they putting in there these days.

What resolution are/will you playing at? If it's 1280x1024 or less anything more than a single 8600GTS will be a bit overkill. (Especially a GTX)

I'm not a big fan of wasting money.... Even if my parents are paying for it....

The new cases are meant to be pretty good. I believe they are still using the BTX layout, however, this serves them fine as it means you really need two fans in your case.

The build quality is ok, although, they still have those little parts of them made out of plastic which seem flimsy.

The PSU and cooling depends on the model. I don't know about Dimension desktops, although i know XPS's. The XPS is just a standard hardwired PSU, although apparently it is pretty efficient. The Dell CPU coolers are similar to the Intel stock ones.

However, one area where the Dell XPS owns is in the H2C cooling. This is a half water, half tec heatsink style cooling. I can't remember how it works, although i do know its very effective and can cool a heavily OC'd chip well.

That's the way I feel, I hate doing it. I think I'll just be doing x2 8600's. If I don't like the way it turns, out, I guess I can sell them,and pick up an 8800 gtx from someone.
