how long will this rig last?

im getting this at the end of October/start of november, certesy of alex98uk showing me the site.

i was wondering how long this rig will last until certain upgrades will be needed

how long will this rig last? i would give it 6 years it should last that long,

but you're dvd drive will most likley be the 1st thing that needs replacing,followed by the psu or the harddrive :)

6 years? Wouldn't say that. The lifespan gets shorter and shorter and shorter. Look at a card from the GeForce 2 era, they can keep up with some of the newest low-end cards. There are people still rolling (more like wobbling) on 5200s. How likely is it that 8800s will be able to even play games well in 3 years?

i would say...3 years but it actualyldepends on wat games u play. if u play only bf2 for the rest of ur life, then ur comp will last u the rest of ur life. theyll prob come out with a ne PCI-e slot which wil be the new big thing

It's a good build but umm, 9xxx series cards are coming out not long after you build that... So to build your computer before or after they come out with in a month or so of the release date is just dumb.

This is because,

a) 8800 will become cheaper and you may have bought it when it was still priced high or

b) you may like a 9xxx series card.

And the GTX really depends on the resolution you wish to play at. A GTX shows its colours when you play @ or above 1600x1200 res. anything lower than that and your wasting your money on hardware your not putting to use. So a monitor to go with your rig and the res you wish to play at would help in the decision on the size of the card you you need to buy.

Chillblast is a reputable brand. They do a lot of advertising in PC magazines here and reviews on their computers are generally very good.

1) im not building it, thats being built for me, and before you say build it urself, dont bother, ive made my mind up and im mot going to build 1 myself

2) i dont dont know what the res on a 22" is but i think its over 1600x1200... well i think it is,

so when is the 9xxx series coming out, if the 8800 is the current card, why is it jumping to 9xxx,

I don't think the 9 series will be here until next year. There is still number spaces left in the 8 series.

also im having second thoughts about vista, maybe i should get XP and 3GB ram??

i replace something major once every 9 - 12 months. In the last year the mainboard, memory, and processor were up graded. With the addition of 2 hard drives.

well you'll eventually need vista for dx10 gaming, but if you don't like it you can always install xp on another partition or hard drive. Most people that have Vista usually put up with it and seem to make it work fine. I on the other hand hate vista.

as long as i can play COD 4 and Crysis for a few years im happy

I'd get the 3 gigs if your using vista. 4 would be better.
