ok i just order this parts from newegg

2gb memory ddr2
500gb baracuda seagate sata
evga 680i
650w power supply
coolermaster ammo case
dvd rom
dvd burner
8600gts 256mb

ok so my quiestion is do i need a floppy drive?
do i have to format the hardrive?
how do i install vista?

i will have some more questions later on..pls i need some anser to this.

i been watching pc building guide on youtube, but i havent figured out what to do next rgiht after u first boot your pc...

Well lets pick at this...

a) ****y graphics card you bought there. Waste of money, better off with a 8800 GTS. 8600 is a joke.

b) No need for floppy drive unless you use them still...

c) 500 gb HD? Are you seriously going to need all that space? 320 GB is great and then you can use the money you save for a WD RAPTOR.

d) Aftermarket cpu fan for cooling is better, especially if you plan to OC. Don't forget thermal paste. Artic Freezer pro 7 is good, so is zalman stuff and what not..

e)I'm assuming your ram is no lower than 667 mhz but probably 800mhz speed. I'd suggest pc6400 (800mhz) ++.

To install vista just insert your vista cd into your dvd drive and go into your BIOS, from there you will have your first boot device set to your dvd drive and save. Then when you boot up, your computer will read the vista cd. Ummm, I don't think you need to format if its a new HD...

By the way, since your a vista user you may want to get 4gb o ram.

1. Assuming that you are using Vista, you don't need a floppy. If you wanted to setup RAID or SATA in XP you would though.

2. You don't have to format the HDD< but you do have to partition it. Windows should prompt you to do it when you are installing the OS.

3. Put the disk in the drive, set the dvd to boot first in the BIOS, restart, it will go.

After the OS is installed, you are ready to go. Install ALL DRIVERS, then have fun.

TAKE YOUR TIME AND DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING WHEN BUILDING!

About your components:
Graphics card is mediocre at best and you could have gotten a much better card for the money, but it will do i guess. Your CPU has a lot of power and you will bottleneck your system with that VC.

Do you need a DVD-ROM and a DVD-R/RW? Put that $$ toward the better VC. Maybe the X1950X I saw on newegg for $129 yesterday?

Ram looks good, but when I went from 2GB to 3GB, my loading times decreased a bit more.

About the HDD, I'm sure that you will find a use for the space if you know about torrents.

I have the 8600Gt not GTS and its hella, no problems at all. I don't think its worth getting an 8800 you be crazy system. You crazy mang. Although it does kickass, but 8600 is perfect. Everything else you got is good, I would like to see how vista goes for you.

Everyone with the exception of you two have stated the 8600 is garbage. It is equivelent to the 7600 but a DX10 ready card.

But I guess it will run fine on low resolutions, but you can't compete with me @ 1680x1050.

meh. if you can't get a 6600gt, then an 8600gt is an ok mid-end part. :)

8600GTS is ok but it really wont be able to run DX10 at any good framerate and there are better DX9 cards on the market

X1950PRO/7900GT are better than the 8600GTS and cost less /7900GS/X1950GT cost less and are faster than the 8600gt

so it really doesnt make sense to buy a 86xxx card

Yeah if he really wants to be smart with his money he should buy a cheap DX9 card, either of the two that was recommended or anything greater than a 7600 at least and wait for a true DX10.1 card to come out because DX10 is destined to be old skool sooner than later unfortunately.

Or wait for a penryn... Thats a nice thought :)

Either way me thinks he already bought everything according to what he wrote.

actually i have this card since the day it was released..i play it on my old hp rig pent 4 3.0 ghz 2gb ram 250gb hd. and it runs a little choppy bcos my cpu is bottle necking it. and i tried the crysis beta and it was soo lag the whole screen starts getting artifacts..

anyways thnx for the suggestions guys..ill show some pics when its done..

im gonna play this new rig mostly on crysis or frontlines or whatever new games comes out this year.

I really think you should wait until november/december for the new Nvidia cards to be released if you want really great performance on crysis@DX10

penryn is not really worth waiting for its just a die shink nothing more and i dont think amd 4x4 will be anything better than intels processors

but if the 8600GT performs fine on low resolutions (i guess 1280x1024 is low to you?) then that's fine for me. Why would I need my card to run good at higher resolutions, when I only have a 19" monitor?

Yeah but with the 8600GT I can use 3.0 shaders on games like quake wars. (about 40FPS@1280x1024)

Now, the only reason I have the 8600GT was because it came with my computer. If it didn't, I would have obviously gotten an 8800.

Ok fine, I'll change my wording around.

A GTX shows its colours over the GTS in higher resolutions (both 8800 models) which is why I use my example of playing at higher resolutions.

an 8800 GTS 320mb would destroy the 8600 at lower resolutions and the GTX would perform just about the same if the clocks are close. So the only way to show off a GTX cards power is to play at the higher resolutions where the GTS will fall behind.

As for playing crysis with an 8600, good luck. DX9 cards push that card around, doesn't that sound wrong to you?
