    1280x1024 all medium, some high.

2gb RAM would be my number 1 recommended upgrade!

drop the 160gig drive and go with a 36 or 74gig Raptor.. it will prob cost just as much as that larger drive..but the raptors are much faster drives- 10K vs 7200k

The overall benefit would be good. Not just loading times, but when the system goes for paging, loading anything into and out of memory, really.

If hard-drive manufacturers got off their arses and made some new technology (not super-expensive crappy limited re-write solid-state drivers), the benefits would be ridiculous. Imagine 500GB of space almost as fast as RAM...

Regardless, a Raptor would be useless here, the money would be better spent on a graphics card worth talking about.

Graphic card, Ram, HD , IMO all a must for good gaming, 2gig of ram is very impt.

i forgot, make sure you get a large PSU, i think that is important as well, 450W min IMO

are we all looking at the same contraption? 7300se? That card is going to chug on Powerpoint, not to mention making your games look like a slideshow.

pentium d 820's are 90nm process chips = hot and inefficient. you can get a 65nm 915 on ebay for about $50 (I just sold mine), and they are much cooler if you're absolutely stuck on a D. the 915's are great overclockers, too. having said that, c2d is the way to go for performance, AMD is the way to go for bang/buck atm.

a better cpu won't make bf2 run any better, but it WILL help ALOT with other games.

so, a better gpu would make you a happy bf2'er, and another gigabyte would make things fly. don't spend a whole lot on the cpu as it is, though!

What's the point of buying a pentium D when we've moved on to dual core processors?... or are you buying on a small budget?

p-d is a dual core processor; one of the poorer ones, but dual-core all the same.

I upgraded to a C2D E6600 from an AMD 4400+, big difference. Same video card and amount of ram teamed up with it. The processor effects everything. If you team an 8800GTX with a C2D E6400 you will get great performance. If you team up the same video card with an AMD, you will get less performance even in BF2.
