Referring to Alchemy, because Creative lied through their teeth when it came out by saying it would only work with X-Fi's. Then Daniel K went and proved them wrong,

by removing the X-Fi check in Alchemy and guess what, it works on Audigy's as well.

Oh, well in that case, that's damn cheeky...

It's like when Nvidia said SLI only worked on NForce chipsets, then some smart arse goes and gets it working on pretty much every other motherboard.

Exactly.. think about it? I paid for my "Expensive" card just as the X-FI users did. But hey its my choice..I'll either suffer or get a different builders card which I hope will prompt those other builders to get better products out than what Creative has. Creative should support its drivers and software to make its products work. Its like selling me a car but the dealership not giving me a Engine with it....alot good it is huh.

which audigy did you get? Because none of them on newegg are even half as much as an x-fi.

LOL not now but the one I have i got back in 2005 so it was a little bit more than what they are now..but your missing the point.

Cost of the cards isn't important its the purpose in which they are supporting their customers.

I bought a Dell 2 years ago and got Windows XP. Why should i now have to pay for Vista?

I paid the same amount for a computer 2 years ago, thus i should get Vista free right?

              Wrong...

Well your correct.. your Dell model isn't getting vista offered free when another model is.. thats what I mean. Its the company as a whole.. hey don't believe me how I feel and if its justified? Run over to the Creative forums and read the many many pages of complaints since they did this. I'm not the only one they ticked off..but again its my choice nobody elses on what products I choose to use and why I don't choose to use one from a single company.

but we are WAY off topic... this is for a thread of its own.. :)

I think you'll find that every company has screwed over there customers. I mean honestly, if thats how you felt about everything, why are you even playing this game, or anything by EA for that fact. EA is a terrific example on how to not treat your customers or employees. If you asked me to get a sound card other than a creative, I wouldn't even know what to think of. Maybe Turtle Beach or something? Do they still make sound cards ?

                    Wrong...

COMPLETELY different. Creative advertised such and such, and it's THEIR responsibility to make sure their products conform to how it was advertised, unless it happens to be impossible - which it bloody well isn't.

The difference between XP/Vista and "Alchemy" is that the prior are fully fledged operating systems with thousands if not millions of hours of work behind them.

This, is a fecking driver release that makes functionality equal. It's their job to deliver drivers that will work with the product as described, and they didn't. They can, and should be pounded by a class action suit.

By the way, you may be studying business or whatever other things, you're still a consumer, and you're one of those suckers born every minute (not that we aren't).

As for the Dell, you got EXACTLY what you paid for, no more, and no less. That's part of the reason Dell is a multi-billion dollar company, and you're not (yes, there might be other reasons, such as you not being a computer factory, but meh...).

Yea, i know that, but what i don't see is how people expect Creative to release software for free to fix something that they never guaranteed would work in the first place. When they released the Audigy 2, they guaranteed it would work for XP and earlier, but not Vista. Thus, they are under no obligation to give it away. And, people are going to buy it. You may say there is competition, but honestly Creative is a monopoly in the gaming audio market, and the majoirty of people will stick with them.

But, hey, if i still had my old Audigy 2 and had Vista, i would be pissed off as well. You have to see it from the companies side. It could be worth quite a few £thousand to them.

Oh and as to what this thread was originally about, just tested in BF2 and not necessarily any faster but definitely smoother with better color and IQ than the 163.44.

Oh well, guess that rules out one competitor. As for the drivers, it made a ridiculous difference to mine. Fixed this one memory bug that has been in for around a year.

You're looking at it through £££, but what you have to see is that "consumer rights" is a f*cking farce. Nobody stops buying XP or Vista because it's a load of horsecrap, even though there are now alternatives for the overwhelming majority of people (Dell sells Ubuntu, Apple and their Crapintoshes, not so crap anymore with OS X), and nobody is going to stop buying Creative. So in a way, we, the suckers, deserve it.

In any case, they should be slowly going down. Don't need another of these bloody companies taking monopolies. Microsoft, Intel, nVidia, Creative. Great future.

Creative i suspect will die out eventually. The will soon be no need for external sound cards as on-board chips become better. I completely understand .

I bet you though, cracked versions of ALchemy will soon be seen on the P2P scene.

I'd rather have an X-Fi extreme music sound card than entire Dell Gaming System with Monitor. :hi:

                              Um Alex,

That happened the day after Creative released the Audigy paid for version of Alchemy, and no need of a torrent. I get the feeling Creative was a little embarrassed about it, and left the links and info up.

lol I was going to mention this but I'm trying to stay on topic and not argue what camper already said.

Its just how you wish to direct your morals.

I downloaded that the day it popped up and never paid a penny for it..but still thats not the point.

Ohh, and I never said I didn't own a X-Fi card either.. just wanted to feel for one of my many computers with a Audigy card in it..poor things...
