    DX 10.1 Release Date Predictions?

Ok, so it's been confirmed by Microsoft (if you havn't heard) that their will be DirectX 10.1 and that DirectX 10 capable cards (i.e. 8800) will not beable to run DirectX 10.1. Anyways, the main point of this thread is... When do you think DX 10.1 GPU cards will be available, and if you think it's worth buying an 8800 at the moment, or wait til DX 10.1.

A game that uses 10.1 won't even be out until this time next year, so anyone who waits that long is an idiot. There are almost no new features, and its not really that exciting/important.

the current DX10 cards will be able to run on DX10.1 but not use all its capabilities, which is good as those on vista wont have to go on a spending spree just yet and hopefully the SP1 will bring some nice fixes.. maybe..

as for it getting released Vista SP1 should be out around November (along with Crysis, CoD4 & G92/94)

10.1 isn't even worth thinking about as far as im concerned. DX 10 is sexy enough for me as it is.

Vista SP1 beta is floating around the net now... the official release won't be till after the first part of the year when SP3 for XP comes out.

but yeah no games for DX10 right now let alone DX10.1

                my prediciton:

dx10.1/sp1 will be released as soon as the movie and record companies have approved the next generation of drm-OSware that is hardened against circumvention by monkeys running state-of-art typewriters.

                ...and not one day sooner.

                :p

                you asked.

looks as though microsoft and video card companies are starting to hold hands... like gay men. So now everyones gonna have to upgrade video cards more often. This doesn't seem to be an issue for me as I usually upgrade my video card on a yearly basis.

Smells a lot like when nvidia started making the cards PCI-E only when they could have, still could be AGP and perform just the same. Maybe motherboard companies and video card companies were on the phone together talking dirty.

Thats one of the only aspects I don't like about computer building, is all the profit sharing thats going on. I, a consumer, like my hardware in my computer. I like MY nvidia card but not nvidia because of the way they treat people. Making people think that cuz they get an 8600 (which is a bigger number than 7800) they're getting a better card when they're not, yet they payed more. My intel is a great processor, top of the line these days, but i hate intel. Selling the consumer a great chip, with a piece of **** heatsink.

Erm, the 8600GTS will happily trounce a 7800...

AGP was dropped because it couldn't supply enough power to the card, in the same way that PCI-e now can't and is being dropped...

DX10.1 just adds some HDMI audio support iirc - it won't make a big difference either way imo.

It's not really being dropped, a newer version is almost out (pcie 2.0).

The only thing thats changing is the number of lanes a single slot can support (now up to x32) and the power being supplied to the slot (was 75w with ver.1, 2.0 is now 150w).
