    Quad-Core?!

What's the point in having a quad core processor when a dual-core will do just fine? Actually..what's the point of multiple "cores" anyway??

    Re: Quad-Core?!

Quad cores advantage is that it allows greater multitasking at once which is ideal for people who like to edit media files. For gaming however, I believe the only game that utilizes a quad core maybe is Supreme Commander. Other than that, quad core is not really a gaming CPU, yet.

After stating that, having multiple cores is pretty self explanitory now. They allow more multitasking at a faster speed.

Asides from a definition, just take a P4 system vs a C2D system and watch load timings. Pure Ghz means nothing. It's all about the architecture of the chip.

Even though I have a patch from AMD, I still disable BF2 from running on my second core.

I believe future games from Valve will have very good multi-cpu integration. They seem far head of the curve in research.

Quad Core is also great at e-penis processing. Just being able to tell my mates i have a quad core CPU would be so cool!

On topic, a Q6600 is now the same price as i paid for my E6600 a year ago. Scary! :p

yeah, I start to think price wise, maybe I should upgrade...but I am still happy with my opty@2.7. I'll wait till Barcelona/kuma hits and see where things are at that point.

Kuma is part of the Phenom series of procs coming from AMD that are (I believe) the desktop segment.

So a dual-core is all I really need, for now anyway, right? I was just wondering because I saw a review for an Intel Pentium sumthing or another quad-core processor. Nice.

The Intel Pentium E2140 is based on the Core architecture. Its effectively a Core 2 Duo, rebranded. However, according the Custom PC magazine, its a sweet overclocker.

Yes that should be a good C2D.

My advice to you though is to make sure you know which C2D cpu your getting in your laptop because none of the model numbers make no sense in terms of what your getting for what you paid for.

By that I mean, There will be like a T7500 rated at 2.2 ghz 2MB cache 800 mhz FSB or something vs say a T7300 at 2.0 ghz, 4MB cache 800 Mhz FSB. What you want is the cache over te 200 ghz.

Please note I just made those two specs up and they are prolly wrong.

Don't forget to get at least a 7950 or higher in your lappy if you expect to play games with high quality :)
