Fair enough on the GPU, but can you not get XP Home? Save you £20-30.

Quad cores are becoming pretty affordable, so much so I didnt even build my own because of the price of the processor by itself. Two weeks ago, at Fry's, I got the following rig for under a grand, which included a 19 inch monitor. Only thing I had to do was buy a gfx card.

Q6600 (2.4 ghz, 1066 FSB)
3 GB DDR2 RAM
400 GB 7200 RPM HDD
8600 GT ($100 on newegg, I know I'm cheap)

Play bf2 like a charm, high everything with 8x Anti aliasing, much better than my old pent IV, 1 GB RAM, x700 card could pull.

Yes, but we can't update everything at once. It may be that he upgrades to quad core and then a month later updates his graphics card.

^ thats exactly what I am doing, not all of us can buy all the top parts at once, i am waiting till november hoping the price drops on the 8800gts 640mb, i know a quad and 7600gt is an odd pairing but the graphics card is one of the easiest things to upgrade unlike the cpu because it costs quite a bit of money
