Re: need help buying new pc parts please

i ended up getting this -

    e6750
    EvGa 8800GTX
    EvGa 680i a1 SLI MoBo
    4 g ( 2x2G) GSKILL DDR2 800Mhz
    Acer 22in Wide LCD
    blah
    blah
    blah

im having some heat touble.. I idle on desktop at around 47c-50c ( temps seen by speedfan ) using a artic freezer 7 pro cpu cooler. I ordewred some artic silver 5 fropm the EGG , itll get here next week and im gonna try that on the cou heatsink.

The EvGa 8800GTX runs really hot. ideling at 70c w/ no OC ( temps seen by Rivatuner )
I have seen ppl that have the same MoBo/ Same CPU / Less Ram AND A 8800GTS get basically the same 3dmark score as me and i spent 250.00 more on a gtx. wtf is that about?

it sounds like you need more intake, and possible more exhaust around your gpu. you may want to think about an aftermarket cooler. the hr-03 is the best of the best, and they've recently released a respin that is compatible with the gtx. downside: cost (~40-50USD), and cost (12-15USD) because you have to provide your own 90mm fan, and it will connect to your mobo instead of the gpu.

      what case do you have?

second complaint: i suspect people who are getting near your score are running at lower res (22" is pretty big, and gts-buyers are typically a little more budget sensitive-->19"), or your having driver issues, or your cpu is possibly bottlenecking the card a little (???--i haven't read enough about the new 6750's to know that or not)

Re: need help buying new pc parts please

thats why i got the gtx and not the gts is because it was "SAID" to be perfect for res's UP TO a 32in widescreen.. so there ya go....bs

        i only run at 1680x1050

how can a e6750 bottleneck me? ppl w/ e6600 are geting the same scores as me .
i have 4 case fans and i have this fan -

im not gonna spend any more $ on this POS gtx but tryiong to cool it w/ an aftermarket cooler..... that will be even more wasted $$ ..

the first chace i get im gonna ebay it, and buy one of the new cards when they come out. I HATE THE GTX ITS A WASTE OF $ and i wish to god i never bought it. i was going to just get the gts but i decided to "splurge" and waste another 250.00 and get the gtx............BOY!!,EvGa musta seen me coming because they got me good. It wont happen again.its so bad i am debating just selling the whole gd rig and saying **** gaming all together..its nothing but a gd rip off anyway...NO REFUND policy really helps save there asses.. I would LOVE to see there stock reports on profits made from the 8800gts and the GTX.. I GUARANTEE the GTX nets them 300%-400% more profit than the gts.. I would bet my life on it....$550.00 for the gtx is insane for only getting 500 more 3dmark scores even after the highest CPU and VID CARD OVERCLOCK I CAN GO..

it idles at 75c in a large atx case w/ 4 fans ( 5 if u include the freezer 7 pro cpu cooler ) and room temps of 75f-80f. WITH NO OC!!!!

my friend has the same monitor as i, less cooling, less ram, and a slower CPU ( e6600 )
and his gts an gets within 500 points of my 3dmark06 score.. no mater how u look at it its a rip off.. period.

**** EvGa and **** the GTX

Sounds like someone has a driver problem.

Re: need help buying new pc parts please

what kind of temps are you getting on the 6750? I wouldn't worry about the gfx card temps. But nvidia producing card companies are known to put waaayyyy to much thermal paste in between the cooler and chips. So unless you want to take the 8800 apart, just don't let the temp bother you, there might not be anything you can do.

If your processor is idling 30 - 35C then you know its just the graphic cards own problem. If your processor is not idling at a low temperature, try to reapply the thermal paste. Of course clean off the old stuff. There are ways to apply it to different chips that effects the cooling performance DRASTICALLY. On Core 2 duos its best to put a thin line in the middle of the chip in between where the 2 cores are. On single cores its best to put a small grain of salt sized drop in the center, it just depends. But gooping a crap ton on there and squeezing the sink on that isn't going to help you. In a lot of cases it makes the temperature higher.

As for the graphics card, try not to let it go over 100C. I think they can go higher, but I don't want you to take my word for it.

Looks like other people are having the same issue, chances are the drivers are reporting the temp wrong. Try the BETAs that just got released.
