Trust me if i could save up for it I would but the disdvantages of being a High School Student is that you still have parents in charge of you, and they have forbidden me from spending over my(their) budget.Comment

Forget the 8800GTS unless you are also planning to get a new CPU as well.
You want a X1950pro. Good solid mid range DX9 card.Comment

X1950 Pro is the next best.
Actually, just buy an x1950GT and flash the BIOS to x1950 Pro speeds, they're the exact same card but the Pro comes with a faster clocked BIOS. Though it would be a good idea to check first by soft overclocking.

Either way, don't bother with anything less than an 8800GTS, or X28xx (if they're out), or x18xx, or 7800GT. You'll be wasting your money, especially with the 8600GTS.Comment

Ok. I have read some reviews and the x1950Pro is slightly cheaper, performs at the same rate as the 8600gts and probably has a higher memory bus. But then again, it's all about power consumption. Either way, I need a new PSU whatever card I buy.
Edit: Ok I did some more research and I found i could get an x1950 pro for about the same price as an 8600gt, so the x1950 pro is definitely my pic instead of the 8600gts.
Also i found an Unusually low priced PSU which I think might be a bit dodgy, just wondering if you peopel could assess it.
It's a Power Supply CoolerMaster Real Power 500w Extreme (ATX) Which i found for AUS$75.
The low price leads me to believe it is of poor quality.
Also there was a Power Supply 500w (ATX).
Does the ATX part mean something significant?

ATX refers to the size and type of fitting. It is also the most common type and will probably be fine.Comment

OK i am not to bright on alot of computer stuff but i ran into a situation with my video card. i purchased a xfx 7600gt and i only had a 200 wat power supply, maybe 1 1/2 years old. well the screen didnt even come on. a friend told me to get a bigger power supply. i got a 350 out of my old pc. it turned on.I played some games and had issues with lag and dimming. like the brightness whent down. well i ordered a new power supply a 600 watt one and man my games are now playing great.Also before i upgraded my video card i upgraded my hard drive. i had a old 40gb wd caviar hard drive. i upgraded to the WD RAPTOR and wow what a diffrence in game loading.Comment

Holy Crap!
This card has boosted my Graphics performance by an incredible amount, I almost don't recognise my own computer!
It's runs at max settings and 4x Anti-aliasing, 1024x768 on bf2 SF Iron Gator 64 at a minimum of 30 fps and a max of 95 fps which is kickass considering my old gfx card couldn't even do that at minimum settings.

Meh, should have saved money and gotten an x1950GT and flashed it. You could have gotten the 512MB version for a similar price I think.Comment
