I'm a AMD guy at heart, I like AMD chips I've always have better experiences with them don't know why but the P3's I had were IMO just awful and never really looked back since I went AMD.

I'm looking to build a killer rig mid summer with the money from my new job as it stands I'm looking at spending no more than £1500 but hell I may spend more. I just want for once the best of the best at time of purchase.

I know that at this point in time Intel are ahead so I'm asking if there a substantial bang for buck difference between the top of the AMD chips and Intel? Or is there any expected release of new AMD chips Summer time? I don't really know of any good comparison sites so any links would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

I recommend an Intel Core 2 Duo:

    Easily OC'd to 3.0ghz

      Re: Processor Advice

AMD's next proposed release is going to be the "phenom" chip (http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/05...details_leak/), which looks like it will be good, but still not good enough to beat the Core 2 Duo. It will probably be released in 4 different flavours. Until then, i would expect to see them to continue to release new 5 series models, including some which are branded "energy efficient" and maybe some which are made with a new 45nm die.
As for C2D, 6 new models are to be released which have had their FSB upped from 1066mhz to 1333mhz, which should help. In the next few months they will be releasing a quad core Xeon (which will be off the scales in terms of performance)

For now, you would have to either be plain stupid or a die hard AMD fan, not to go for the Core 2 Duo. They offer brilliant value, run cool and overclock like a madman.
My personal product recommendation is the E6320 (if OCing) or the E6600 (if not OCing). This is because the E6320 can easily reach E6600 speeds and has the full 4mb cache.

      Hope i have helped.

          Re: Processor Advice

          Thats a pretty aweful comparison...

An AMD X2 5000+ IS NOT faster than a Core 2 Duo. Plus music encoding works better on certain architectures. So i wouldn't use that as a decision tool.

Cheers for the input guys, I'm taking an e6600 probably just going to take the lower FSB speed, the faster one might not even be released yet when I'm building it. Besides it's pretty cheap TBH ~£150, very nice

Intel is beating AMD recently. The Core 2 Duos have excellent overclocking potential. I have the lowest range Intel Core 2 Duo and im overclocking to 2.5 ghz

Hey it is a really nice system. I did a month research before building it. Got advice from people from different forums.
