HD problem??

Hey,

I rencently bought a WD raptor HD and installed it. It is being detected and I can read its size in the BIOS too. I can access it in the device manager as well but the one thing I cannot do is see it in My Computer...

I was looking around and I noticed that the drive space is unallocated. Maybe thats something to do with it? Or could it be something else? I'm running out of ideas - HD's don't need drivers do they?

pfft... All I wanted to do was install Ubuntu 64bit on it. I can't even access the stupid thing.

You have to format it + give it a letter before you can see it in my computer.

do this:

right click on 'my computer' > manage > storage > disk management

or ( start > run > compmgmt.msc )

from there you should be able to right click on the drive and partition it / format it.

Ubuntu should recognise the HDD straight away and do all the formatting when you go to install (or you can use GParted), if you just want to use it for windows you still need to format it as NTFS or FAT32

Its quite good. First thing to do when you log in is click on System -> Administration -> Restricted Drivers manager and enable your graphics card.

Second thing to do is install Beryl once thats running, well MS put it best The 'wow' starts now.

Actually, I tried turning off my primary HD and installing ubuntu like you would windows on my raptor. Didn't work. After like 5 minutes nothing was happening. Kinda freaked me out a bit. :S

Anyways, I'm all set now.
