          Re: Making A Computer Into A Server

          I found a couple links:

          Minimum Specification, based on playing a 16 player game:

          * CPU: 1 GHz
          * RAM: 384 Mb
          the main problem is how much bandwidth you have, specifically how much upload bandwidth. I imagine most home connections don't have enough upload bandwidth to support a BF2 server. BF2 is one of the bigger bandwidth hogging games out.

                    Luck to you. I may remember seeing a tos agreement that strictly prohibited flaming strictly due to poor grammar...

                    ...but that might have been on something more mature than a gaming site.

                    Can't...for the life of me...remember. LOL.

                    Best of luck setting up your server. PM me if you need OTM (other than M$) assistance and I will try to troubleshoot as time allows.

                      whats the speed though? seeing as how dodgy BF2's server app is, i dont think a home connection will suffice

                        Re: Making A Computer Into A Server

                        If it's an old PC, the odds of it running a decent game server are slim.

                        Turn it into a router (only 150mhz needed for CPU, 8-64MB RAM, 32MB storage), or a web server, or even a file server.

                        For the love of god, just don't make it into a game server if it can't run BF2 on anything less than high (gfx card obviously excluded).
