        8600 is out! AWESOME!

Time to start looking for deals on another x1950xt and a genuine DAAMIT crossfire board.

nVidians, I :salute: you. Now carry on smartly.

Guys, don't waste your time with these cards. Go for the 8800 GTS 320mb. The memory on the 8500 & 8600 is only 256mb and 128bit. I honestly don't know what Nvidia is thinking by releasing these crappy cards.
            Comparisons off of Nvidia's site:
Real-time ray tracing, AI-powered DLSS 2.0, and programmable shading.

Excuse me?? The 7600 series, when it came out, was a great lo-cost solution.

The 8600 will accomplish the same thing now. These are not crap cards. They're a way for people who can't afford the hi-end parts to still get nearly hi-end performance. At least consider that before you bash on them....

Look, all I'm really saying is for a few dollars more, a much better graphics card is available. Once these cards actually hit the market, the 8800 series prices should drop, so those who have monetary issues with hardware should breath easier. So, my advice is to wait until these "crappy" cards hit and buy the 8800 series cards. I hate to see kids waste their money on false hopes.

But look at the price difference between a 7600GT, and the next step up, 7900GS/x1950GT/Pro - There's £50, at one point it was £100 almost.

This, you have the choice between a £160 card performing half or less as well as a £180 card. I think we know who wins. nVidia = retards.

Maybe given about 6 months, the prices will fix up...

                        Your point is taken.

I have a 7950 now, which retailed at the time I bought it, for $270-$300. when I bought my 7600(6 mos previous) for $150 the 7800 and 7900 were still, in most cases, above $300.

                        Was it the best card??
Of course not...but it did the job for the price. I did videos with it and got no complaints from anybody about the quality.

Is the 8600 a good card series?? That remains to be seen. If they work like the 7600 did for me then they won't be "as crappy"

Will prices adjust like you're saying, yes.
I don't see that happening for at least another 6 months...maybe more.

Given that right now owning a DX10 capable card is more hype than anything the best option is to save your money for a while longer.

I'm only aware of one game right now that's going to use it? Crysis. If there are others please enlighten me :)

the 8600 is not as good as a 7950. They rekon its similar to a 7900gt or gs. They say it has DX10, but for all we know, it could be ****e at that as well.

They were thinking about selling lots of exceptionally well-decorated cardboard boxes in the $100-150 price range that say "Fully DX10 Compatible" on the side (edit: and on top and on the front of the box in big green letters) before DAAMIT releases a single DX10 part.

Oh, and they did put hardware in those cardboard boxes...not that it makes a difference.

I saw you have a 7600gt in your specs...can I ask what you paid for it. US dollars, pretty please :)

also, this chart is posted over in the 2142 forums under a thread of the same name as this one that shows a framerate comparison using BF2. The 7950 is significantly better than the 8600 there.

I'm quite happy for now given that there is no real reason to have DX10 yet...by the time that becomes more of an issue the prices will be down enough to justify a higher end purchase.
