Re: New Hardware needed - advice
I've got that board, the P5B-E and I'm very happy. If it hangs because you're overclocking it, all you have to do is turn off the a/c and it will reset the bios to a stable config. Not having to open up the case and short the reset jumpers is a big plus if you're into overclocking. Most of the rest of the board is standard fair, but you do get RAID, and you do get e-sata, which are very nice things to have if you are considering ever making use of an array or an external hard drive that works at the same speed as your internal ones (yummy backups). You also get labeled jumper adapters so you can configure the jumpers on the adapter, and then hook them up. Arranging jumpers is always one of the more frustrating things about building pc's (provided it fires up) and Asus has made it very easy and very dummyproof.
Only potential problem is that the ram voltage only goes up to 2.1v (edit this MIGHT change in a future bios revision), so shop for memory accordingly.
The rest of the suggested build looks good, too, but I'd be very tempted to wait another couple of weeks until intel drops their prices. With the money you save, you can buy a decent, quiet aftermarket cooler. Personally, I'm holding off on a new processor until the q6600 hits $266 in Q3 2007. That's !four cores!@2.4 w/8MB cache for a little more than the current price/expected price of a e6400/6420--2 cores@2.13 w/ 2 (or 4) mb cache.
Four cores! Woot!

Re: New Hardware needed - advice
I think saying "costs a bit more" is a bit of an understatement.
It's like saying, since your building a new system, instead of getting an E6300 get the Q6700 quad core processor. It only costs a bit more, but it beats anything else in the market...
Seriously though, the 8800 is £200+ more expensive than the X1900gt. The x1900gt is a brilliant bargain at this price and has been given a lot of awards based on performance and price in Custom PC magazone.
The 8800GTS 320MB I was looking at is only £90+ more than that 1900. I think you were looking at an 8800GTX 768MB.Comment

Re: New Hardware needed - advice
Asus P5N-E SLI 650i Socket 775 Onboard Audio ATX:
Harness the power of Intel's ground-breaking processors with Intel's ATX motherboards. We have all the best motherboards for gaming right here at Ebuyer.
The link above, is a good mobo, but not as good as the P5B-E. Try and wait for it to come back into stock is possible. If your prepaaired to spend a little more, you could go for the P5B-Deluxe which is an absolutely crazy board. It is probably the most popular mobo in the PC world at the minute due to the incredible amount of features it has and the fact that its a brilliant overclocker. It also comes with Wifi!Comment
