Every PCI-E card can be 16x. It depends from your motherboard , if it lets you to use 8x or 16x. But theres no overall performance increase between 8x and 16x. Also i suggsest you to save more money to buy 8800GTS 320mb version card, best buy atm .

They will not work on Vista x64.


Well, my PSU couldn't handle it so I'm back to the 7600GT till Wednesday.

Has anyone managed to overclock their card yet? The screen flickers like hell when I try, if I do it low-level with power strip, the core will OC fine but a single MHz on the memory clock will just blank the screen. I've tried changing it according to the reference clock (27mhz), the only thing I haven't tried is changing it according to the ratios ATI Tray Tools gives you.

If you're talking about the x1950pro, it's a problem with all ati cards.

It is important to note that when overclocking, the default overclocking method is low-level. This is the setting you will find on other applications such as Riva Tuner by default. However, with ATI cards, specifically low-end models’ overclocking the memory is a tricky ordeal. You cannot use low-level overclocking on the memory, it will simply not overclock, even by 1 MHz. Thankfully ATI Tray Tools lets you select driver level overclocking. In driver level mode the memory can be overclocked without problems.

For the love of god I hope you don't have widescreen or custom resolutions or refresh rates.

Atitool 0.27 Beta currently supports 1950 Pro, works well apart from the fact that 1950 Pro won't gain more than a few percentages in fps by overclocking.

You can change the clock rates by flashing, beats having to download some obscure utility.

ATI Tool didn't work very well, I was in driver level mode and it started flickering IIRC, or just gave me the black screen. Add the problem of vista rejecting the kernel driver despite me forcing driver signing off...



Alright, I think this was one hell of an impulse buy, can someone help me find an 8800GTS instead? It has to be around £150 (yes, long shot but I just saw one somewhere for that price, gone now 300 USD max with international S&H), if I bought from the US/CAN/Europe it should work out to that price.

This x1950 is artifacting, flickering, everything. RMA time.

Too expensive when I convert to GBP. There are killer deals on US eBay but none seem to ship across. Where the hell is the British Empire? I want my 8800GTS.

I just bought the 8800 GTS came to $412 CDN after shipping and insurance and everything else and it is the factory over clocked version (on sale till the 20th for $349 CDN)

Well, I can up my budget to £180 I guess.

Any ideas? The x1950 is well and truly f*cked, it artifacts at the POST screen, it's that bad.
