I have found the process of making macros for BF2 a very complicated and hard thing to do.

I have tried various types of macros on my G15 keyboard but none of them worked flawlessly, some of them not even working at all.

Doggie, do you use the MR button on your keyboard or do you write the macros in notepad then upload them?

I noticed with the MR button, they dont always work, I set up one of my G keys to switch to med pack, toss 2, switch back to rifle...when it works, it works great, but sometimes I got to press it 2-3 times to get it to work

now with uploading them, they work EVERYTIME, it really is good

on topic - I got a G7 mouse, love the feel, its a tad bit heavy (which I like) but when the battery goes dead in the middle of a TV shot or worse yet, while your flying a helo, it really gets frustrating

does the G5 mouse have rechargeable battery like the G7

I use X key to prone, which is a lot closer to the index finger, adds sh!tload of mobility and keeps the fingers on the keyboard. Its been at least 2 months since I bought the MX518, or 3 months, and Im still not using the sidekeys for infantry play. Ive assigned them to "cockpit view" and "rear chase" for land vehicle but I found it rather useless to map any other keys to the sidebuttons.

For example Ive got the main weapon key mapped as F, so I can switch firemodes and switch back to main just by pressing the key next to RIGHT STRAFE with my index finger. And proning has been pushed to X aswell which means I already got the maximum from the keyboard. And getting used to the mouse keys would not be that useful.

As for macros, when I posted the last post I wanted to experiment with various options in some games I was playing at the time. I like creating these little combinations but I doubt Im going to use any macro for actual gameplay. In BF2 Im not much of a bag spammer or nadespammer either. But a FEAR-esque "press G to throw nade" thing would be pretty damn cool.

Yeah, I've remapped a lot of keys from their standard horrid locations. Prone is now R, reload is now the forewardmost thumb button on the mx518, and prone and flares and parachute are assigned to the rear thumb button. And of course, the mouse wheel - one way cycles views, the other returns to F9 view, and also, I remapped "cycle weapons" to mosue scroll down a la CS:S.

Oh, and if you play about with the number before the last 1 or 0, you can just hold down the parachute/flare keys till they deploy.

Now, how would I go about mapping it such that it cycles upwards as well, without macroing?

I think I'll take a leaf out of your book and map the main weapon to F. Or maybe paddles...

It's odd, because I find a less akward key setup makes reacting much, much faster. Used to take me half a second to do most things because I couldn't reach the bloody key without performing hand yoga.

For that, I suggest you check the controls.con files, maybe you can find something alterable there?

Take main weapon because youll be using F key a lot then.

My philosophy is that if the hand does the yoga, the keys do the changin´.

Re: Bought myself the MX518, a few questions.

Yeah, I mapped it to F, it's a lot better. While 3 was good, it's just those extra milliseconds that count :)

I tried simultaneously binding "fire" and "previous item", but it only fires (pretty fast :p). In CS 1.6, you can do that with a "wait" command in between and that gives you weapon switching a la Source.

Paddles, I may bind to "C".

Funny thing is that after a year, it never occured to me to "customise" this game...

But then again, I was happy with some random Dell ball mouse and 20fps on low settings.

Anyway, what about the R/D/F/G setup? Or any of those on that line? Sorta "liberates" keys. That would free your leftmost finger for quite some things. It's mosly a case of finding the keys you use the most, and assigning them to the most ergonomic locations. Now, if EA gave stats on those, would people pad them?

I have lon fingers, up to the point where piano players and lonely women would be jealous, which means I dont really need the left side of the board and I can reach all the keys 2-3 lines to the right with ease, which ability I use to its fullest as Ive had a lot of different settings. Playing and practice does its correction though so I use as few keys as possible, lifting as few fingers as possible. So the usable key group starts up from 1 and goes all the way back to H in a semi circle, if you know what I mean. Coupled with long fingers, its my index finger that does most of the job outside WASD.

And since the index finger is the most mobile, its a little hard to break the trend to RDFG setup when the whole industry relies on that trigger finger, along with the proven WASD configuration. But, if youre strong enough to change, go ahead. I have a gamer bud who still plays with arrows.

I read somewhere that habits break as long as you repeat it some 30 times, or over 30 days, not too sure. Maybe I'll put that to the test :p

I can understand H, but how the hell do you reach 1 with the index finger? Even if you had long fingers to make "lonely women jealous" (), there's the slight problem of the rest of your hand.

I think E/S/D/F would be better now, it feels almost exactly the same as W/A/S/D but my little finger can reach both Shift and \ without any strain whatsoever.

Oh, and how does this person use arrows in an FPS game?

Dude, fvck it, youre right. I just tried the ESFD and I see a lot of potential there. And creating a habbit takes 3 weeks. I read that from somewhere and its really so.

No, no problem, thats the point. Keyboard is an open battlefield for me, I can play around using even the F keys up to F6 without raising my hand. Should make a foto, youll see. Then show it to your girlfriend too

Bingo, just tried it and its awesome. Ive been a stupid moron for 4 years of computer gaming. No more

You should see him trying to battle the keyboard in games where you need to lean

Hehe, I'll try the ESDF setup (I'm a keyboard conservative  ).

Lucky on the fingers, F6 = LOL. I can barely reach F5...

I guess your friend could use Right CTRL and 0/INS for leaning

And we need a thread on controls, damn. There's quite a lot of potential. Now I can revive whore silly, with C just a hair's width away. C-F-C is better than 6-5-6 :p

                      Viva la revolution!

Hes using thoe keys right above the arrows (del, ins?, I have a different style KB so I cant imagine what keys were there).
