Nividia, Creative and Logitech, How are Things

Hey everyone

This upcoming weekend I am going to order all the parts I need to build a new pc, Vista included. I have heard horror stories about games likes oblivion and the like and I am very worried. The general consensus seams to be that the drivers are a huge issue and are causing all the problems, also Nividia, Ceative and Logitech are on the short list for problem creators. I would like to know if these issues are fixed or when they will be fixed because my hundereds of dollars of DX9 games are not something I am prepared to be without.

The system I will build will be:

-Vista
-Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4
-2GB OCZ Dual Channel Ram at 800
-EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS
-X-fi Platinum (already have)
-Logitech keyboard/mouse combo

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this PC is being built for heavy gaming and games like oblivion and other DX9 games are notto be forgotten.

For the mobo, i would suggest to get the Asus P5N-E 650i.

The rest of the system looks good.

I would definitely recommend sticking with XP until Vista's had a service pack or two.

theirs official drivers out fro Vista now from nVidia but no idea if they're stable

if you going to want to play the latest games i would get DDR2 motherboard that can have a AMD AM2 processor it will save u money in the long run trust me

Didn't notice I forgot to list my mobo sorry. It will have DDR2 and everything else that I good mobo needs. It worries me that Nvidia hasn't fixed anything yet, however it sounds like things aren't terrible just mildy annoying. I think I will go with vista and stick it out until somebody fixes the problems. Thanks for the imput guys.

its alot faster and powerfull so it suits the 8800 perfect and its perfect for games like oblivion and the latest games

That is some nice ram indeed. However I am trying to keep my ram cost to about $300.00 canadian. I found the ram on tiger direct (http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicatio...646&CatId=2370 ) and it was way to much for me. Thank you for the suggestion though, I am still open to anything at this point.

Nothing to say one way or the other about that motherboard, but why are you only looking at Tiger Direct? Most reviews that I have seen have not had a whole lot goos to say about them (from prices to customer service).

Most of the stores listed there are still in business (site/map needs to be updated), some have moved out of downtown, some have gone out of business, and there are a few new ones that have moved in. If you can it is well worth it to take a couple of hours and go to College and Spadina and just go from store to store checking prices, etc.

the motherboard looks fine but i think AMD is better than Intel for gaming as i see intel for more office based but thats just me i guess

but that system should be able to run the latest games for a few years

Thanks for your advice guys. I was just using tiger direct as a reference because they have a good website and a massive inventory. I plan on printing off all the ads from tiger direct for the parts I want then going to retail stores and saying look im buying 2 grand worth of parts a) Beat these tiger direct prices and b) What kind of deal can I get because im buying such a large amount.

Oh and KillSwitch I have heard good things about AMD also but my P4 has never failed me yet so I have faith in Intel.

Intel has been trouncing AMD with the core duo line in just about every benchmark out there. But before that the AMD 64 line was the way to go, the balance of power will hopefully switch back to AMD when their new line comes out but for the moment the best processors are Intel processors. That said if you're on a budget the prices of AMD processors have gone down in response to Intel's dominance, but from the machine this guy is building it doesn't look like that's much of a problem.
