HELP!!!!Building new system

The comp i have right now isn't what i really want. its a sony vaio but i want to upgrade and build my own computer. but im not too up to date on all the new hardware and brands. and whats good and wats not .really don't know what to get. im looking to spend around 1,500$ on the system. So what would be the best hardware to get. And what stuff would word together. im talking everything from the Case to the hard drive. I know its kinda a lot but i would really appreciate it.

the best graphics card on the market at the minute is the 8800GTX but i think its still to expensive, hence why i picked the x1950 pro.

Gives you about $400 to buy your extras if you need them, new O/S, bigger monitor etc.

My advice is to go with a 8800GTS, E6600, and a Asus P5N-E 650i mobo.

G-skill is a good memory brand. But for budget memory i would go with the OCZ Gold XTC DDR2 667.

Lian-Li's are sweet, and Hiper is a pretty good newcomer on this side of the pond, but suggest you save yourself $105 and get a Sonata II w/450W psu built in, which is plenty to power 1 x1950PRO. I'd also choose an x1950xt over an x1950PRO, because it isn't a lot more expensive (especially if you fill in the rebate form), but does provide a tangible increase in performance.

well for the hard drive im ganna go with 2 74gb raptors and prolly a 8800gts for graphic card

2 74gb raptors will not be able to fit into your budget if you plan on getting a 8800GTS.

Case: i would go with the one Scinto linked
CPU: E6600
Mobo: Asus P5N-E 650i
video card: Evga 8800GTS
hard drive: Segate Barracuda 7200.10 250gb (add a raptor later on)
RAM: 2gb OCZ Gold XTC DDR2 667
DVD drive: the one that Scinto linked
PSU: I dont know enough about them to reccomend one

Thats one of the worst deals ever. Sure, it's seems like a sweet deal now, but if he decides to upgrade to something more powerful (8800 series or an R600, which I have a feeling he will in a year or so), he is going to have to buy a new PSU along with the graphics card. hence, not really saving anything.

Generally, not imho. Case is almost as solid as the li-li, but offers better, more efficient, and more quiet cooling. The 450W Antec PSU is gravy, but is enough to get most people gaming happy and save them ~$100. However, since the OP wants to splurge on the most expensive and power hungry gpu on the market, then I'd have to agree with you in this particular instance.
