I am stunned to see a modern mobo do this...

Did you notice that it's also AGP and only has two DIMM slots?
It's not exactly a "modern" motherboard.

not everyone can afford or needs a top of the line mobo.

          Nope, missed that too.

Before I responded to this post of his, I had just read his other post about OC'ing his e6400 Intel...which I therefore assumed meant he had a nice new modern system.

And by modern, I meant not 2+ years old...which it appears this one might be.

The mobo I mentioned as mine was purchased new for $75, back when IT was new itself...not exactly top of the line either, but still has the appropriate jacks in back.

I am one of the most "anti-expensive" hardware shoppers around...I too insist upon passing on overpriced bells and whistles on my comps.

how would his mobo be two years old when the core 2 duo came out a couple months ago?

Because the Core 2 Duo work on old Intel mobos too...the socket has been around much longer than the CPU.

                thats not necessarily true

i have a mobo that came originally with my pc that was 775 with a celeron d. but, it doesnt support the core 2 duo's fsb. therefore, it wont work with a c2d

I don't recall saying all socket 775's...just said they are compatible, which they are, regardless of how many or few.

                      Re: logitech 5.1

you said old intel mobos. Im pretty sure no intel mobo from 2 years ago had a 1066mhz fbs since 2 years ago there were only p4's and celeron's etc. the only processor that i see that has a 1066 fbs is an older pentium extreme edition but you probably wouldnt get one of those with an agp graphics card and ddr ram.

so answering your first post about his system being 2+ years old, it isnt because his mobo has to be less than a couple months because of the core 2 duo.

OK, since you obviously want to split hairs and it seems to make you happy:

Who said anything about an FSB of 1066? When? Where? Doesn't apply here to the topic.

The first review of his mobo is nearly 4 months old. Therefore it is older than your 2 months claim. Yay, we're both wrong. Who cares? It doesn't apply to his question, which was AUDIO related.

I guess you missed the 35 reviews listed on the page, dated...why? Because it didn't matter to anything we're talking about here, just like I neglected to see the other parts I have mentioned below.

My original statement still stands: I am shocked to see a mobo with only 3 jacks on it!

When I said "system", I meant just the mobo, which COULD have been a 2 year old socket 754, with a new C2D CPU in it. You don't need a 1066FSB mobo to use a C2D I hope you know. Is DDR2 1066 even approved by JDEC yet?

Again, since I ONLY looked at the audio portion of the mobo, as that was the only part the topic starter was interested in to begin with...the other hairs you are splitting here do not apply no matter how much you want them to.

So to conclude, we have established that since I only looked at the audio, I missed the AGP part because it didn't apply, I missed the DDR1 part because it didn't apply, I missed the 1066FSB part because...you guessed it, because it didn't apply to his question.

could you please clarify the term "splitting hairs"
