hey guys it's me again. i was thinkiing of picking this up

will i need a 5.1 sound card? If so what you guys recommend. im on a really tight budget. whats the cheapest out there?

What mobo do you have? You may have onboard 5.1 or 7.1 if it's fairly current. Audigy 2s are going for pretty cheap these days now that the X-Fi series has taken the top spots.

this is my new motherboard i just got for Christmas......i don't know if it has 5.1 or 7.1 onboard sound.........how can i check?

That mobo has 6 channel audio, aka 5.1. You'll have to look in the manual to see how to configure the jacks in the back for 5.1. It probably makes the normal line out the front, the line in the rear, and the mic the sub. Or there might just be a digital I/O that runs out to the speakers. I have only used the optical jack on my X-Fi to connect to my surround.

Audio Chipset: ADI 1888 = Realtek AC 97, its either the ALC655 / ALC658 Drivers.

I have the model prior to that one (mine is wired, those ones have wireless rear speakers), and I am telling you, they are AWESOME!!!! Five of my other friends have the same model as mine. The 12" sub sounds great and so do the rest of the speakers. My model here in Aus is called the Z5500.

snoop has the 5500 and i was wondering what a bigger differnce the sub is? his is bout 190 watts mine will be at about 120.....will that be a huge difference?

oh and btw to the people that own a 5500 like snoop can u tell me how wide and long the sub is please?

5.1 & 7.1 sound doesnt have to be PCI cards the onboard sound is getting better and realtek is shining,

the reason why i mentioned the driver was because the software that came with it will help you configure your speeakers and should give you an option to test them.
