I reckon take it to a shop, then go have a couple of beers with your friends. Pick it up 2morrow. Problem over.

do you have a SATA cable or a different kind, disk boot failure can mean many different things, possibly bad mobo. If you were to get a different mobo, go with either a Gigabyte or a ASUS.

The whole point of building your own PC is the satisfaction that comes with it, plus cheaper. We all come accross problems, but they CAN be solved without the expence of a repair shop.
Ive had many a problems when building PC's but hey i LEARNED a hell of a lot from it. Just like Sevigon IS gonna learn from this.

Exactly. So far, with this build, I've only put $400 into it, for some pretty nice parts.. aside from the motherboard, lol.

I think, if I don't have some sort of answer by tomorrow morning, I'm going to overnight a new board. It has to be it.

Ive read through the thread again and cant see if you have IDE or SATA drives. Im guessing IDE as you said you tried 3 drives (wish i had 3 sata's instead of 1 lol)
Your new mobo will support SATA, before you go getting a new mobo have a dig deep in your bios advanced settings. Your mobo might be looking for a sata as primary, make sure you have it disabled/set to IDE.
Clutching at straws here, i really wish i could browse through your bios :hmm:

I tried changing a transmission in my car once, and stuffed it completely. Since then I've just about givin up on do-it-yourself jobs. I hand things over willingly to people who know what their doing. It's good for the economy.

If things go from bad to worse on the build, you can still go to the pub with your mates, and put off the job till another day.

Well, since I'm not there and I don't know the setup. Did you state that you are running SATA? If you are.... might have to install a 3rd party scsi driver when installing winXP. I know I had too with my gigbyte setup.

Im an Audi master tech m8, problems with PC's are small compared to the electrics on a new motor. Try diagnosing a fault with around 10 (on average, sometimes more) 'computers' all comunicating on a CAN network.
Changing transmission is a few nuts and bolts, nothing technical about that mate :p

I had too as well, but does not explain why drives are showing at 7GB
Good input though.... thats another story, try installing 3rd party drivers when you cant get floppy to work. Was my worst nightmare, thats why i know what Sevigon is going through.

If the bios is seeing the whole drive, no reason why XP shouldnt to be honest.
What copy of XP you got? Legit?

And.. we won't go there. ;]

But it's ALWAYS worked for me. For the past 4 years. Without a hitch. I reformat all the same way, once a month. Its a breeze.

Throw in the new hardware, bam. lol.

I've done this before though.. Put new hardware of some sorts, new processor and motherboard, with old other components, and it all worked fine.

It still continues to baffle me.

Its got me too mate, if i were you i would get another mobo.

Lets start ruling out stuff lol...........
Hard drive = No, you have tried 3
PSU = No, you are powerd up
GPU = No, you can see the bios
RAM? = ? Shouldnt make a difference with this prob, but have you tried other ram? or just 1 stick (if you have 2)
DVD rom = have you tried without it connected?
Other stuff (network card ect) removed?

If all above is tried and tested (please say if i forgot something) then you have a f**ked mobo.

PM me when you get sorted, i would like to know the outcome

Nope.

Still getting it.

I even put my old system back together, put the same hard-drive in it.. and it is fine. Shows 80GB in the setup.

Ordered DFI Lanparty board. It will be here Friday. Hopefully this fixes things.
