New Computer Build. Issues.

Hi everyone.

Ok, so I'm pretty good with computers. I know my way around them, lets just say that.

I finally got the money to purchase new parts for a new build. And totally excited to build this and get it up and running.

Here's the issue:

I used the same case, PSU, DVD drive, RAM, and hard-drive from my old computer. And bought my CPU, GFX Card and motherboard all new.

I switch everything out that is needed to be switched out. Turn it on, all goes fine. Gets to the POST screen, and it tells me disk boot failure. Totally spacing out on I need to reformat with the new parts.

I go to do it.. put in my CD to reformat.. everything is normal, like usual. It gets to "Setup is inspecting your hardware blahblahblah".. then restarts, and goes through the entire process.

So in turn, I have no clue as to what to do now. It won't boot up, and when trying to reinstall, it restarts.

Any clues?

Here are the new specs.

Athlon 64 3700+
BIOSTAR TForce-6100
XFX GeForce 6800XT
1GB Corsair RAM
Creative SoundBlaster Audigy SE 7.1

if its disk boot it sound slike the drive. is the drive connected properly?

Yeah, it is.

Heres the process I do.

Start system up.
Everything starts to load fine. It gets to the POST screen, and then says "Boot from CD".
I have my XP CD in there, to reformat.
It goes to a black screen, with the words "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration".

Stays there for about 30 seconds. Then my monitor says "No signal", and reboots. And does the process all over again.

any beeps from your m/board when it crashes? Is it the normal beeps on boot-up? Beeps can be usefull

Nope. No beeps at all.

I made it to see if it would load normally, aside from the whole BOOT FROM CD thing.

It says "verifying dmi pool data... update successful."

it asks me whether i want to do safe mode, last good configuration, blahblahblah. i choose anything, and it reboots.

Check your BIOS settings. sounds like it isn't reading your drive.
Had a simular problem myself and found I'd pluged my IDE cable into the wrong slot.

Still no luck with any of this.

I get different problems everytime I try something new.

Different hard-drive? I get NTLDR is missing error.
Different load selection? DISK FAILURE error.
Boot from CD? Goes to "Inspecting hardware", then reboots.

I'm disappointed.. because I've never had a build do this to me. I'm about to try and send them all back, or sell the parts, and move on.

- hm could be a bad mobo.
- rebooting on post? cpu could be overheating, check your thermal.
- try booting with 1 stick of ram.
- the best suggestion is to pull the mobo out and try booting outside the case with only the minimum needed (mobo, 1 stick ram, vid card, hdd. cpu+hsf, psu. make sure to place it on a piece of cardboard or other non-conducting surface. also check all mobo jumpers.

Need more info.......

Are you using SATA?
What is your PSU rated at?
If your using regular IDE(PATA) have you checked to see if you've bent any pins?
Have you tried using diffrent IDE/SATA cables?
Have you tried reseating your RAM?
Are you sure you have the correct ram(That mobo takes DDR2)?
Can you prove purchase in 48 states?
Have you checked to see if any CPU pins have been bent?
Have you tried a diffrent stick of RAM?
Do you have your BIOS setup correctly to detech your hdds?
Have you tried booting with out the DVD drive?

OK.

So I managed to get it to the Windows XP Setup screen. The place where you have the option to format a drive, right?

Well.. normally, I fly right through this part. But here is the situation now:

The main drive only shows as being 7546 MB big, when infact, it's an 80GB hard-drive.

So I tried to format and setup windows, even though it's only 7.5GB.. and it said the setup experienced an error, and the drive may be damaged.

Is it safe to say I need to buy a new hard-drive and then everything will work fine?

Oh, btw.. it turns out.. the XP disc was dirty.. which is why it wouldn't load the format process. Hah.

What size does the drive show as in the bios?
Do you have access to another PC to test the hardrive in?

In the BIOS, it shows the normal 80GB.
But in the XP format screen, (The blue one), it shows as only 7555MB.

Yeah.. the hard drive works fine in the old PC I had (the one the hard-drive came from, naturally)

Thats a strange one m8, i take it you have formated and checked the drive for errors in the old PC?
I know you say you have done all this before but are you sure the 7546mb is just not free space. Have you pressed 'd' (i think it is) to delete partition, then create a new partition.

I'm just wondering if its something in the BIOS thats making it do this.

I've taken three perfectly good hard drives now, and tried them. They all read around that 7555MB area of total space. It baffles me.

If its the same with 3 different drives then its definetly a bios setting or a faulty M/B

Good luck mate, cant really help without actually being in your bios.
Ill have a google at you M/B to see what settings are in the bios.

One last thing, there should be a jumper to reset your bios. Try that, it will tell you how in the manual.
