$20 if you solve my problem...seriously

    the rules -

    1. problem must be solved and game running stable
    2. there will most likely be a lot of back-and-forth
    3. please don't give up on me

    THE PROBLEM

after 1.5 years of trying to solve this problem, i got a 15 minute glimpse of a smooth game. that's the issue. my rig is custom built and i have updated every driver i can imagine. running forceware 84.56 after trying dozens of drivers. the problem can be described as large pixels. my fps during gameplay is NOT A PROBLEM. imagine you are a sniper and scoped in. when you pan left and right, the scope moves as if the pixels were a few real millimeters in size, so you can never center it on a head. now that is same for the rest of gameplay. i can strafe left and right (not moving my mouse) and everything is perfectly smooth, but when i turn my mouse left and right, it is not smooth, far from it. as i thought my mouse was the issue, i went and plunked down $50 for a logitech mx518. cool mouse, did not solve my problem. i have used logitechs "setpoint" program and played without it. no difference. the reason i write this is that i recently said f*** this, reformatted for the 6th time, and installed xp sp2. PRESTO, game ran perfectly smooth. next morning, back to sh**. please please please, i paid lots of $ for this comp and the specs are way above requirements. remember, don't tell me i need a new ___, ___, ___ cuz i got that glimpse of the smooth gameplay remember. ask your questions. the $20 reward is only for the person who gets me through this, honestly.

    rig -
amd dual core 64x2 2000 mhz
    corsair value select 512X2
    nvidia nf4, amd hammer
    nvidia geforce 6800gs 256mb
creative sb0410 sb live 24 bit
generic psu 475 watt (not the problem)
    mx518 mouse

thinking the same thing...def. seems like a GPU problem. Maybe your card has ran its last race? Is it overclocked?
I've also heard that sound cards can tend to play a role in screwups...especially in the BF series. Maybe remove that, restart, and try it.

I know I had/have memory issues which cause my computer to crash while I'm ingame, but it seems like something is going wrong with your GPU.

      I'm no comp expert so....

Try running the game at that lowest resolution and changing the sound to use software instead of hardware.

Also, does the problem only occur in BF2 or in other games as well?

its your GPU its not handdling certain calculations which makes it go for an easy way out my messing everything up only way to fix this issue is to change your graphics card  i dont want your money if this is the cause im just glad to help :)

EDIT: reading through that again have u checked your temps how hot is it running if u ahev new drivers go into NV control panel and check the GPU temps but it might also be the memory on the card getting hot and loosing some of its data

my guess wud be 1 gig ram is not enough.my bf uses 1.24 gig when its running:hmm: and most people use 1.5 gig or 1 gig ram as i had to go out and buy 2 more 512 sticks to get it to run without issues giving me 2 gig now.

the rest of ur system looks fine but do you defrag and clean ur systems software?eg.registry and errors?

Video card overheating or turn down your graphics to medium/low and resolution to your monitors native res or below it I would think something like 1280x1024 or 1024x768

                okay, part 2.

my 6800 gs is not overclocked, and i'm pretty sure this problem is only related to certain games such as bf2. gonna have to double check that. my temps are pretty consistent. i've already learned the hard way that i cannot use hardware for my sound. i only use software. BUT, i have not removed the card either. so i will try that. but remember, 2 nights ago after reformatting, the game played smooth for the first time in 1.5 years of having my new comp. that's the most frustrating thing. just a glimpse of what it should be. don't think that my gpu is the issue either, since i bought the comp with a 6200, ran game on low res and same thing. thought it was the card, so upgraded to 6800. no change.

tried the usual, vsync 1/0, aa 1/0. the card is pci-e. is there a freeware prog that someone could recommend, that would give you the info you need? i currently use everest home edition. any info that you need?

even though that glimpse of smoothness was with one gig ram, i just installed another 512 X 2 crucial. gonna give it a test out, but don't think that's the issue. any suggestions?

                desparate,

Sounds like either a CPU MMX/SSE fault, or a north bridge PCIe controller issue.
So would first try another CPU, if it fixes your problem, try your CPU in a comp that's playing BF2 properly and see if problem appears there too.

Is either memory related of GPU. Try to get a different video card to try it out. Also try different memory, or run memtest on your current one overnight.

dudes, i'm stoked. i just took apart my comp AGAIN. removed my neon lights, my memory card reader, sound card, rewired everything (changing the config) and now the game plays perfect again. seriously, its been 1.5 years of sh**. but i have no sound. so... should i attempt my sb live 24 bit again, or try running my sound off the mobo? hmm..

I would start out by adding the sound card back in and go from there until the game play goes back to what i call skipping. Then you will be able to tell what has been causing the problem.
