    Pentium D? Good/Bad

For Christmas, I want a new processor and video card. I have pretty much decided on a video card but for the processor I'm not sure. Right now I have a celeron D and my mobo can support celeron d's, Pentium 4's and Pentium d's. My celeron isnt that great it has something like 32kb L1 cache and 256 L2 and it slows down a lot with a lot of programs running.

    Sooo...

The only dual core I can buy without buying a new mobo (which I wouldn't have enough money to do) would be a pentium d. They dont look that bad to me and I don't really need it to be the fastest computer ever but I would like it to be a noticable increase in speed in everyday computing and gaming. So, what are your thought's on the pentium d? Should I buy one or should I ditch my mobo and buy a new one? I sort of want to keep my mobo though because it has ddr ram (what I have now) and it has pci e x16 which is good.

Right now I have 1 gig of ram and basically thats all I'm going to keep, but I'm going to upgrade to 1.5 gigs.

Here is what I'm looking at-

      Processor- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116253

Video Card (1 of these, not sure)

      2.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102052

What the difference with the x850xt Pe?

      Ram-

The x850xt pe is also cheaper i think. so, 20mhz faster and 10 dollars cheaper means im gonna get that.

Also, what is a dvd-rdl? Never heard of one..

I suggest the 7600gt by evga, has Sm2.0 which will become a requirement soon enough, even SCA NEEDS it jsut to run, and has a better warranty, and equal to better performance

No the 7600GT is about $115-$125, and it is only a little less pwerful than the X850XT. If you can afford it the 7900GS would be a good choice. Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130056

Like he said i would get the 76 also, and is SM 3.0 not 2.0(older). Nothing wrong with the Pentium D, if you want to keep your mobo and memory, it is a desent CPU.

Hmm, the 7600 gt might be good for my price range but im not too sure about the 7900. I'll have to wait until I'm sure how much money I'm going to get from all my family.

I'm probably going to get a pentium d since you guys says its pretty good.

                            Thanks

Also by the time you will be getting your stuff(x-mas i guess) the 88 series from Nvidia will be out, and maybe the prices on current VGA will go down making them more afforable to you.
