The problem is, with Saitek sticks especially, there is a rather large un-changeable dead zone. It may be helpful in the problem that Neptune mentioned but it is a pain in the back-side when it comes to tight formations and aerobatic displays.

I've done deadzones, and to make sure i wasn't wrong, i even set the x and y axis deadzones to 60%. Yes, it works like it should, the planes
flaps only start to move after i tilt the joystick 60% or more, but if i leave it centered it rolls to the right a bit. Theres no way to fix it, even though the center is "dead", it still rolls to the right. I can't explain why, it might be because it is 3 years old, then again, i've had problems with this js for as long as i can remember. I am not complaining, i love this js, its just that im warning the topic creator to not get it, because its like taking care of a dog.

What we are talking about is related to settings, not the physical location of the stick. (Why can't I phrase those sentences correctly!! )
I mean if you leave the stick, it gets perfectly centered, no doubt about that.
The problem is, say if the stick is centered on 0, the computer recognizes it (each case to it's own numbers, say) as 5 milimiters right / left.
So what deadzone does, you can disable any response of the joystick within the 5 milimiters left / right. Sorry for my eng :)
yeah i have a joystick, logitech 3d extreme pro n i had the same problem for a wile ... when i let go of the stick

even with proper deadone settings, ive noticed that as soon as I start a game I have to move all 3 axes through their full range before it can work out for itself what its centers are. Once ive done that its great for the whole session. That may not be your problem but try it.
