low performance on 6800gt?

ok i just got a 6800gt and it plays pretty smoothly, but i just checked the fps and i was surprised...i was getting about 20-30fps in karkand in the combat zones and my settings are at:

Terrain: med
Geometry: high
Lighting: high
Textures: high
Effects: medium
Dynamic Shadows: low
Texturefilter: low
Dynamic lighting: med

Res: 1152x864@75hz
Viewdistance 100%

my friend told me that i shouldve been able to run all high with 1280x1024 res
but here are some stuff that i think mite be hampering my performance: i have a 350 powersupply and a soundmax digital audio integrated soundcard

any suggestions on how to improve my performance?

btw im using 84.21 nvidia drivers

EDIT: i also want to add that when im not in combat ..like in with maybe 1 or 2 other ppl...my fps is at like 70

depends on what processes u have running in the background, open windows press ctrl alt & del & goto Processes tab, how many is in there?

U might want to run through this XP optimization guide.

Id also have Textures, and lightning on medium. U need around 1.5GB to sustain high in those to areas.

The problem is you have only 1gb of RAM and you have textures on high. with 1gb you should put your textures on med. Your friend was saying settings that would be true with 2gb of RAM.

k thnx..and i have 16 processes running and when i boot up windows i usuall have 130mb of ram being used (w.o any programs running except for antivirus and the normal windows processes)

1GB of ram is fine. It won't affect your FPS once everything is loaded.

At first I suspected a dual core or HT processor, which without the XP hotfix will give you that framerate.

he doesn't have a dual core processor according to his sig, so that hotfix won't help him.

To test it first, run the game and check your FPS, then task out and pull up your task manager. Under processes, right click BF2, click Set Affinity... and uncheck a processor. Go back in game and check for an FPS increase.

Don't do the hotfix then.

I wonder what's the bottleneck.

Try updating all drivers. Video and mobo especially.

Try forcing shader optimization. Search for that one.

Did you have low FPS with previous drivers?

Did you try putting textures to medium, cuz your RAM is definately your bottleneck.
