I wish i could tell you, but the system i installed it on can't play it. I didn't want to write over my main gaming machine's xp install, so i put it on an older computer that i didn't use...

In its current state, Vista is slow as hell though.

i've played in RC1. it's not too bad.

every once in a bit i got a little stuttering but for the most part it was as good as XP.

I am interested in this also. I have rc1 ready to load but don't want to go from xp-vista-xp. Looks like we have a 1 for 2 so far. Gage, do you think going dual boot is worth it or would you do a vista only if you were to do it again?

I can't make a separate partition on my HD... the only option i got was to reformat it, or install it over xp.

let me also expand on a couple of things.

driver support for vista is still limited. i installed the beta 2 creative drivers for my X-FI card but BF2 won't allow me to change the setting to see the x-fi card. i can set it to hardware and then high on the sounds but of course, it's not what i want.

as far as my ATI card, the new drivers for RC1 from ATI work great. better than the default drivers that RC1 wants to install.

so at this point it's a game to play the game. i was in jalalabad in RC1 while playing and only a couple of times did i think it wasn't worth playing in vista.

Well, iam dual booting it. I use XP x64 as my main OS, then I made a 20gig partition with acronis disk director 10(http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing.../diskdirector/

and then install vista rc1 onto my new partition. And I can choose eather one to boot. I havnt used xp since i installed vista tho, haha.

You can fix alot of driver and software problems in vista by just right clicking on the installer, or program if its already installed, and click properties, then goto the compatibility tab, and click the check box that says "run this program as an administrator" thats fixed every problem i've had with programs not working right, also check that box if you want to play bf2 online in punkbuster servers. I have a couple screenshots I took from vista RC1 playing BF2, and the graphics look better/different then they do in XP, iam using all high settings, 1600x1200.

Also, I do get a small stutter in BF2 every minute, Iam trying to find a way to fix it.

Don't ever install a Beta or Release Candidate OS as your primary OS. You'll figure out why when you find the lack of support and the day it runs out and doesn't work anymore.

                    Try this out.

Reducing the number of punkbuster hard drive checks

                    How does this work?

Punkbuster, as you probably know, is the anti cheating software which comes bundled with BF2 and is required to play on all ranked servers and most public servers. Punkbuster scans your hard-drive for problems every 20 seconds. As you may have guessed, this causes a lot of lag. What we are going to do is to increase the amount of time in between punkbuster checks to 500 seconds (the maximum amount so don't try anything higher lol). By the way, in case you were worried, this is 100% safe with punkbuster, and will NOT cause any problems with Punkbuster thinking you are a cheater. Punkbuster even recommends this on their website.

                    How do you do it?

This helped me, at least I think it did.

Step 1: Ok, the first step is very simple, join any BF2 online server which is running punkbuster, preferably a ranked one.

Step 2: Once you are in, and respawned somewhere, press the ` key. This key is located on most keyboards above the tab key and to the left of the 1 key

Step 3: Once you have pressed this, a large white box should drop down with a load of text in it. Type "pb_sleep 500" (without the quotation marks) and hit the enter key

Step 4: Once you have done this, make sure the box is still up and type pb_writecfg to save your settings

by which time the retail version should be released, so as there still working on it the support for hardware should get better :)
